Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich's Picture
Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJ Age and Occupation: 28, School Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate Athletics Engagement Date: March 27, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Congress Hall Hotel About Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
About Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Before I mentioned that it was hard to find orange shoes so I was thinking about getting either navy or gray as my colorful shoe choice. I am never one to back down from a challenge, however! Unless it involved working out and going to the grocery store all in one day…that is just way too much. Spending hours looking for shoes online though is definitely something I can do.

All my typical shoe sites were leading to dead ends in orange department so I needed to resort to unconventional methods. MamaCS had a light bulb moment and started pushing dyeable shoes. The thought of dyeable shoes conjured images of prom.

That is me on the right. I was very skeptical until I stumbled upon My Glass Slipper. I think I have gone to heaven, dyeable designer shoes! I could get Kate Spade, Paris Hilton or Badgley Mischka shoes in bright orange. Winning!

You can order shoes through their ’try and dye’ program. They will ship you the shoes in white or ivory for you to try on. If the shoes work then send them back to be dyed, easy peasy! After searching through all their amazing options I ordered the Cherie by Grazia.

I am so sad to report that yesterday I had to send these shoes back. Unfortunately they seemed like the perfect shoe but were too tall for my dress. They were advertised as a 3.5 inch heel but my seamstress said they were more like 4.5 inches. My dream shoes were no more.

All is not lost though. I took a nap (because shoe shopping is hard) and am feeling completely revitalized. I found my way over to Nina Shoes. Did you know you can design your own shoes on their website?! I have found two options that I am unreasonable excited about. May I present Fulvia and Kyleen…

I am leaning towards the Kyleen. They are so simple and pretty with their little knot. I am a little bit gun shy about ordering them because they seem taller than the 3.5 inch advertised height and after losing the last shoe to too-tall-ness, I am nervous.

Which shoe do you prefer? Know of any fantastic orange shoes floating around the interweb? Any other brides go with the dyeable shoe option?

I wore Nina shoes for my sisters wedding and am wearing a different pair for my wedding. In my experience, the heel height is true to what’s listed.

Yay, Nina shoes! I would definitely go with the Kyleen. Also, dying shoes can be dangerous. I’ve heard horror stories of the dye rubbing off on the bottom of brides’ dresses.

Nice finds! I really love the Fulvia (despite the odd name)

I bought the Nina Kyleen to wear and they are taller than 3.5″ - beware! they are more like 4″ and for someone who wears heels often, these were a little uncomfortable. I ended up wearing them to my rehearsal dinner and wore a slightly shorter pair from Nine West on my wedding day instead.

I love the Kyleen! But I think it’s because they remind me of my shoes! I am loving the orange, can’t wait to see how they turn out!

I would try Milk&Honey, you can design your own shoes there in every size, height, color and style!

Hmm, I like the Fulvia as well, but really they are both gorgeous shoes. Love that you can customize then with so many different options!

Kyleen…I just discovered the Nina site also. Have worn that brand for dance and love the fit.

Nina also does custom shoes for a reasonable price so you can order the adorable Kyleen with the shorter heel and the color you like! :)

If you like the kyleen but have concerns about the height you could try the culver. i wore them in “sand” for my wedding and they were perfectly comfortable the whole day. http://ninashoes.com/culver-ys-ivory–13675?gclid=CNz_ko_W4aoCFUff4Aod_D1e8g

First of all, I love 90s fashion! I know, I know, I’m crazy, but when I was little I wanted to be Lisa Turtle/Kelly Bundy. Moving on. Orange is my favorite color so I’m super excited at the thought that you’ll be rocking orange shoes! I love Nina shoes and the Kyleen is perfect! I can only hope the height is perfect too! Good luck.

I bought the Nina Electra in the custom 3.25″ and it is that height. Their stock shoe was over 4″ but the custom shoes are pretty accurately sized.

Thanks to your amazing suggestions I have ordered the Kyleen from amazon in a neutral color and expect it any day now. Fingers crossed that it is the right height so I can order my beautiful orange beauties!
