About Miss Petit Four

Just a Little Crazy.

August 19th, 2011 @ 4:37 pm by Miss Petit Four

Some of you may be wondering what kind of crazy person would plan a wedding from 10,000 miles away. Well technically, after consulting Google maps, I actually found that Isla Mujeres is just under 1,000 miles away from Texas… Either way, it’s far, right?

Well, let me tell you why we decided to have a destination wedding instead of a traditional wedding in our own wonderful city.

  1. We (well, I) wanted a small wedding, and realistically that just wouldn’t be possible in a city where my whole extended family lives. I knew there would be drama if we had a small wedding here in town. So, that was easily avoided by planning a wedding far, far away. :D
  2. The only place in town that I fell in love with was WAY over budget. ‘Nuff said.
  3. Get a load of this place!

There is also a lot of other fun stuff to do on the island, so we knew our guests would have a blast. We started off with a little snorkeling…

Just a Little Crazy. : wedding isla mujeres venues Dscf021 An underwater camera was the BEST investment for this trip! We had so much fun with it. It takes fun underwater pictures but its not so good at anything else…hehe. This is the one we bought.

Just a Little Crazy. : wedding isla mujeres venues Dscf006 Then we hung out with some friendly iguanas…

Just a Little Crazy. : wedding isla mujeres venues Dscf013 These iguanas were everywhere! All they want is to be loved…and fed. For the most part, they stayed away from us, except when Mr. PF decided to feed them tortillas.

Then, we finished up with a cultural trip…

Just a Little Crazy. : wedding isla mujeres venues Dscf014 It’s not a trip to the Mexican Riviera without a day trip to Chichen Itza! So hot, and I got a really weird bug bite that came home with us, but it was worth it!

Did you ever contemplate a destination wedding to avoid family drama?

Great idea! We did the same. We started to make a guest list and realized how many guests we would have if we did something in our town. No way! We are doing a destination wedding in Vegas and having 30 of our closest friends and family. We are ecstatic! My wedding is 22 days away and I couldn’t be more excited. Best of luck to you!

that is exactly what we are doing! we live in l.a. but if we had the wedding here, we’d end up with like 300 guests so we’re doing it in hawaii and are expecting around 75. i feel bad doing it this way but i do think it’ll be a blast for those who can make it!

I’m confused! Why are you writing in the past tense? Isn’t your wedding date supposed to be March 2012??

Yes, my fiance and I totally contemplated a destination wedding. But it was actually more like a mini elopement. Somehow the traditional wedding prevailed. How did you end up finding your venue?

@lisamarieloves: We (well, I) did a TON of research and we were lucky enough to be able to take a trip out there before we decided. We looked at 3 or 4 venues and when we found Zama, we knew it was perfect

We totally wanted to do a destination wedding to avoid some dramaz. Unfortunately, our friends wouldn’t be able to make it, and I knew it wouldn’t be the same without them there, so we decided to stay closer to home. I will live vicariously through you though :)

My friends got married on Isla Mujeres too! I did a DW, and it really was a perfect way to justify a small guest list w/o hurting too many feelings.

Oh how beautiful! For your actual wedding, you must get the Panasonic Lumix TS3 - it takes great pictures underwater and outside! I’ve tried the Olympus Tough and the FinePix - the Panasonic rocks!

How beautiful!!! We had a DW and I wouldn’t change it for the world. It really cuts back on the guest list. I found that the most important thing was a GREAT wedding planner. It made everything run more smoothly. Also, my friends got married in Mexico and they had a real problem with corruption at the resort (the photographer pretty much refused to give them their pics without trying to extort more cash from the bride the morning after the wedding) and the resort management looked the other way. Be careful who you pick–it can be a different world down there.

We’ve thought about it, but most of our friends are broke and wouldn’t be able to make it if we went far away. We haven’t had any real drama yet, but it’s still pretty early. We are having trouble cutting down the guest list though.

My “destination” wedding will probably end up increasing family drama…. were having our wedding in FI’s home town…. his family is HUGE!!!

We didn’t contemplate a destination wedding but I’d think it would be so fun to attend one! A co-worker of mine is planning one and it’s been fun comparing our two different styles. I can’t wait to hear all your details!

We’re doing a destination wedding for some of the exact same reasons. The guest list would grow insanely large, we can keep our budget under more control (although these babies can get pricey too!), and we wanted to do a fabulous vacation with all our family and friends.

I can’t wait to read about your journey!!!! My wedding is May 2012 in Dominican Republic so I’m sure you’ll provide so much inspiration!

HAHAHA…. I’m having a ‘destination wedding’ but my destination is where I live… I just recently moved from Miami, Florida to Eugene, Oregon and I know if I did it back in Miami EVERYONE would show up… here in Eugene, not many people will make the trip… LOL!!! =)

I’m excited to follow you - I’m a DW girl too! It’s good to know I’m not the only one who had family drama!

We didn’t think of a destination wedding because of our families, but I would love to have a friend or family member have one so we can be guests and enjoy it!
