About Mrs. Teacup

Before I tell you about me, let’s talk about you. Hive, your outpouring of support and encouragement for my initial shedding posts overwhelmed me! I was nervous to share and you dispelled my fear. Your comments ran the spectrum of weight loss options, from quick fixes to long-term lifestyle change. Diet, exercise, how-to books and motivating pictures—oh my! Please accept my gratitude, I’ve read all the feedback twice over and it means a lot to have you there on my journey. From the bottom of my teacup heart, thank you!

When we last left off, I was debating the merits of Weight Watchers vs. Jenny Craig. WW received the vast majority of positive feedback and I agree wholeheartedly with the concepts they teach. Based on my needs and lifestyle, I chose the road less traveled. Allow me to introduce my new BFF, Jenny!

I made an appointment for the very next morning after deciding it was time for a change. My first impression of the center was warm and welcoming, such a relief! I was really afraid to be brushed off for wanting help or told that my goal wasn’t enough weight loss to enroll in the program. Instead, the sales consultant empathized and shared her similar experience. As a salesperson myself, I appreciate someone savvy in the craft. I’m also the biggest sucker for a pitch that delivers what I’m looking for. So guess what happened?

The free session walked through the founding principles of the program and how I would be supported in body, mind and food. Best of all, the approach was to start and then wean off their branded meals. Portion control, burning more calories than ingested, and upping activity level—I can do that!

If you’re thinking what I’m thinking, my first and only question was cost. Let’s face it, I’m a soon-to-be bride with little disposable income. And we all know…

The JC route is not for those faint of budget, for sure. The enrollment fee and weekly food cost set me back a few hundred dollars. Ouch! I’ll be honest—I drove away with a hint of buyer’s remorse. What was I thinking?!

After I got home, the feelings settled and I got to work cleaning out our fridge. Transformation complete, our freezer filled up quickly with the JC meals.

I know, weirdness to see all that boxed frozen food as my nourishment augmented with fresh fruit, veggies, yogurt and juice. How did it come down to this? Curiosity won out and I prepared my first meal.

Mr. Hot Tea saw my tiny plate of food and said, “THAT’S IT?” Yes, dear. That’s it. And so my new relationship with food begins. Let’s just pray I don’t turn into a ravenous mess!

How do you cope with a major lifestyle change? Are you fearful or hopeful? Or both?! What have you done to prepare yourself to successfully achieve your goal?

First, how is your freezer that clean? Ours is always a mess. Second, how can you have ice cream front and center?! I need your will power! I would definitely eat that over JC meals.

When I first started focusing on weight loss and health, I didn’t really look at it as a lifestyle change because that was too daunting! I just took one step at a time. No soda or fast food, then adding in exercise, then cutting out too much “processed” food etc. I actually have a shedding for the wedding section on my blog, it must be a popular phrase!

p.s. ditto on the clean freezer thing! I don’t think my freezer has ever been that organized.

I’m jealous you have a Trader Joe’s in close proximity! I hope JC worked well for you. In undergrad, I thought about doing Nutrisystems because I was too lazy to cook, but then I had a mild heart attack over the cost haha.

You will do great! My SIL lost over 130 lbs on Jenny and has kept them off. It’s a great program. Keep at it, I’m starting to diet too, with less than 4 months to go, I tried my dress on this morning to motivate me some more. We’ll get there! :)

I so laughed out loud at the cat pic. The first three days are always the hardest for me. My body freaks out when I stop giving it sugar and junky food. I hope you enjoy the JC food and once you get past those first few days, you’ll be great! I believe in you Teacup!

I count calories and eat a LOT of fruit. I’ve lost 8 pounds. But it s not fun. I seriously want to eat pizza all day and if I don’t have bacon at breakfast I get a little pissed. But I need to lose a little weight just to be a little more comfortable even in my every day life. Now’s the time, right? Good luck with your jenny craig. It has got to be so helpful to have the food all ready for you.

I did JC! Lost thirty pounds in about six months - to make it easier on my wallet I only bought breakfast, lunch, and dinner and then supplied all of my own snacks. I use fiber plus bars, made my own soups, ate the smart ones ice creams and sometimes chipotle!! Best of luck to you — I’m considering going back on to lose another 15lbs but from what I’ve learned I’ve been able to map it out myself.

I love how we’re all as interested in the rest of the contents of your freezer as we are in the Jenny meals! I’ve heard lots of great things about Jenny Craig! I lost 70 lbs a few years ago using Atkins and have (thankfully) kept it off, but I found that it really is a whole lifestyle change. You’re absolutely right saying you’re beginning a new relationship with food. Good luck, you can do it!

I just started weight watchers, and I’ve already lost 5 lbs in three weeks. It’s just a matter of bring more aware of what you eat.

Good luck with JC, hope it works well for you.

Your LOL cat hits new levels of awesome. When I cut out soda cold turkey, it was hard. Had to take caffeine-loaded migraine pills b/c I had withdrawls kind of hard. But after about a week, I stopped getting the “caffeine headache” when I didn’t have my usual 4 sodas a day (yikes!) I’ll occasionally have a soda every now and then, but it’s maybe one a week, at most. I think for me, just doing it and trying not to think about how much I wanted that soda was the only way I was able to do it. If I thought about wanting one, I would have caved. Oh, and preparation! I had to make sure to always have water and those little crystal light packets nearby.
