Our Engagement Pictures!

August 19th, 2011 @ 4:13 pm by Mrs. Sunhat

We only had to wait four days until we received our engagement pictures. I couldn’t rip open the envelope and boot up the computer fast enough.

I won’t keep anyone in suspense and share the goodies right away!

(All images owned by the Sunhats and photos taken by Stephen Martin Photography.)

This is our absolute favorite photo. Wrigley was so good! Stephen, our photographer, just had us call her over and he handled the rest. Right before he snapped a picture, he would ask “Wrigley—you want a treat?!” and she’d look right at him!

As I mentioned before, we are a divided household when it comes to baseball. I had to get a few shots of us in our Cubs / White Sox jerseys. My late grandfather (who owned the farm) was a huge Cubs fan—we definitely felt him with us that day!

We are so pleased with how they turned out. However, I have a confession to make. I cried the first time we went through all of the pictures, and they weren’t happy tears. All I could focus on is how bad I thought I looked in so many of the shots. I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life and have put on 25—30 pounds since we started dating. It was all I could see at first.

Thankfully, Mr. Ballcap and my family were quick to shoot down my crazy thoughts. Our families raved about the photos and the moms got teary-eyed. It was then that I really saw the beauty and love in the pictures.

Having Wrigley with us meant so much. Mr. Ballcap got her about a year before we met so she has been a part of our relationship from the start. She is our baby and means the world to us. Also, having my grandpa’s truck and the pictures on the farm means so much to me. That truck holds so many memories of my grandparents and my childhood. Before my grandmother passed, we gave my her a collage of some of the photos and she couldn’t get enough of them. We didn’t tell her we were shooting on the farm so it was a big surprise for her. She looked at them all the time and loved seeing the old farm.

My weight and self-image is something that will always be a tough spot for me, but in no way do I want it to ruin or interfere with this time in my life. The last thing I wanted was to be upset about our pictures, but thankfully, I’ve grown to love them so much.

Did you have an unexpected reaction to wedding photos?

You are beautiful, Miss Sunhat! Belated welcome to the hive. I love your e-pics, so wish I had some done! I think my faves are the one of you in the jerseys (we are a divided household as well - Red Sox!/Yankees) and the one of you & Mr. Ball Cap near the tree.

I think you look gorgeous. I am definitely jealous of your hair. You may want to stand in front of the mirror, look yourself in the eye and say, “I’m beautiful” out loud, without looking away, until you believe it. Everyone else already does and you’re behind the times!

I hear you, girlfriend. I have struggled with my weight all of my life as well. I, too, have found a man that appreciates everything about me… even my weight. It’s taken a long time, and I’m not there completely, but I’ve finally gotten to a point where I can see the beauty in myself and not just the weight.

You are absolutely beautiful, and you look so happy!! I’m so thrilled for you. Focus on all the love that surrounds you and enjoy this journey you are on.

The best of luck to you!!

Y’all look so happy and in love in these pictures! You can definitely see the joy, and I think you look gorgeous. And I might steal the jerseys idea from you for our pictures! :-)

Really cute pictures! I love couple photos with pets! I wish I could bring my cat to my wedding so he can be in all the pictures but… he’s not friendly enough to be around all those people lol! I love your pictures though! :)

I think everyone has had a moment where they’re looking at pictures and thinking “what the hell?! I look like that?!!” Body image is such a sucky thing! Just remember you are gorgeous.

The pictures turned out awesome - I love that first one. And what a special thing that you were able to give your grandma! :)

They came out great! We did ours last week at the beach. I still haven’t gotten them yet :( Love that you incorporated your love for sports in yours too! We changed into our Patriots t-shirts and tossed around a footboall at the end of our shoot.

Sunhat I want to you a big hug right now! I felt the same way when we got our e-pics back! I too stuggle with my weight and it was so hard not to pick at our pics and point out the extra chunck under my chin or arms. I finally had to force myself to stop and accept that this is what I look like and embrace our pics!

BTW you guys look adorable!

I feel the looking bigger than you realize thing. It sucks, and I am on the fence with the engagement photos we had taken. Also LOVE the baseball jerseys. Such a great idea.

You look gorgeous sunhat! I think very few of us can actually look at a picture of ourselves and not be judgemental.

I was not thrilled with my engagement pictures the first time through either. I think it’s a very common reaction. After reviewing them again, I’ve decided they’re good enough. There are some decent shots and we got a picture for our Save the Date.

Your pictures are beautiful by the way!!! I ooo-ed and ahh-ed as I scrolled down. I think we’re most critical of ourselves also and that doesn’t help upon the first review.

Ok I can’t exactly remember but when I looked at your pictures I saw happiness and love and an effin awesome truck (and that was before I knew ya’ll had history together)… The self-image thing is normal..how many people - especially women LOVE the way they look in all pictures? Your beautiful and I’m sure all the people who know you would agree about the inside part your mom said. Oh and I thought the hand holding pictures from the back are soo sweet. Did I mention that’s a sweeeeet truck?
