Miss Kettle, Chicago, IL Age and Occupation: 26, Non-Profit Donor Resource Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Musician & Teacher Engagement Date: May 29, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2012 Venue: Patrick C. Haley Mansion, Joliet, IL About Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.
About Miss Kettle

Okay, so maybe I’ve been dying to include all the lyrics from I’m A Little Teapot somewhere. I’m Miss Kettle, and I’m quirky. Forgive me hive, I just can’t help myself. So, what is a shouting-and-steamed-up teapot referring to? Music, of course!

One of the best things about marrying a musician is the direct benefits to my ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. We are having, wait for it, three different sets of musicians. We’re going to have a string trio for our ceremony, a jazz trio for our cocktail hour, and a DJ for our reception. It’s going to be amazing.

The day Mr. Kettle announced our engagement on Facebook, he asked who would play at our wedding for free and several people responded. He was joking, but he definitely took them up on their offer.

The DJ is a friend of his who’s soooo good down in St. Louis. He’ll be coming in for our wedding. He’s spinning for us as a wedding gift. Also, we’re having three musician friends of Mr. Kettle’s playing live jazz music during our cocktail hour. They also offered to play as a wedding gift.

The string quartet for the ceremony didn’t offer to pay for free, but they are doing a reduced price for us. Winning!

Music is something that’s very important to me for our big day and I feel so blessed that I am able to have these things that are a high priority for me while still having budget money available for other things, like flowers!

This is what I imagine for our wedding music:

Are you having various forms of musical entertainment at your wedding?

How frickin’ awesome. I’m trying to find a way to sneak in a string trio into the budget for the church!

VERY awesome!!! Having musicians as friends is a definite bonus!
We’re having a friend DJ for us. :) Pretty sure there will be other musicians/singers “taking the stage” at some point, too. Just because! (My FI included!)
In fact, a friend (the DJ) is also creating our wedding march! It’s going to be EPIC!!! (Especially since NO ONE else will have used it before us! SCORE!)
We’re also planning on an iPod/laptop setup, too, but… yeah, our friends will probably commandeer it at some point, lol.

Don’t be jealous guys! Just live vicariously; it’s what I do when y’all come up with amazing ideas I can’t incorporate into my big day.
I guess I have to get a videographer now so you all can see and hear how lovely it will be…
@Mrs. Turtle: Oh wow, I can’t wait to have those same kinds of memories.
@Miss Sunhat: Good luck with that! If you want to know who I used, they’re waaaaay more affordable than most string trios, and they do anywhere from duos to quartets!
@Ryna: I bet the music at your wedding is going to be legendary! I have a friend who’s an amazing singer (think Luther Vandross + Frank Sinatra) and I’m dying for him to take to the mic during our reception.

Love it! Having a string trio for our ceremony was one of our best budget splurges - so so worth it!!

We won an hour of a string trio for our ceremony and I couldn’t be more thrilled because it was definitely not in the budget. Now I’m just lost as to what type of music we’ll want them to play. I’ll be following your music posts VERY closely, Miss Kettle!
