Miss Kettle's Picture
Miss Kettle, Chicago, IL Age and Occupation: 26, Non-Profit Donor Resource Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Musician & Teacher Engagement Date: May 29, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2012 Venue: Patrick C. Haley Mansion, Joliet, IL About Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.
About Miss Kettle

Mr. Kettle promised not to look at my wedding dress. Do you know what that means, hive? Hold that thought…

How My Wedding Dress Is Like My Future Husband : wedding chicago wedding dress 11111 11111

Back to what I was saying. Hive, today is the day I confirm all your suspicions. I will reveal, to much fanfare, but not much surprise, my dress!

It’s such a special dress. It’s made for women who are either very short or very tall. Seriously, if you’re 5’4″-5’8″, I can’t even imagine how you’d pull this off unless you have some unconventional torso-leg proportions.

I’ve loved this dress since the moment we put down the first down payment. Even though almost every dress I tried on looked good, this one was exceptional.

When I went for my veil consultation/size-for-ordering-confirmation, I was dying to try on the sample for my dress again. There were two other brides there. They were both trying on dresses. Again. Like, for the second and third time. Perhaps it’s the indecisive person in me, but I’d never put down money on a wedding dress that I wasn’t sure about.

If I were anything less than completely sure, I’d be guaranteed to be like them. I’d be back in the shop, trying on another 20 dresses. To me it’s like finding a husband. You don’t stop trying on dresses until you’ve found THE ONE. And then once you’ve found it, you’re done. You stop shopping because you’ve found your heart’s desire. You don’t do this:

Even if you come across others dresses you could possibly love, they end up not being enough. You don’t even want to try them on. If you don’t feel like this about a dress, keep looking. Of course, if you wait too long to find a dress or have an extra short engagement, the rules change.

Just like I knew almost right away my fiance was the one, I knew the same thing about this dress. And unlike a living breathing person, my dress is just waiting for me to take it home (or will be in December). Did I mention I love my wedding dress? It is unconventional, but it makes me feel like a bride like nothing else I tried on. Kind of like how Mr. Kettle makes me feel like a wife like no guy I’ve ever dated.

Without further ado, my dress!

Are you a short dress bride? Why did you decide to go with a short dress over a long one?

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! You are going to look smashing in this gown! I can totally see you as a short dress bride - brilliant choice! The color has to look just amazing on you as well. Can’t wait to see you in it! I myself have a long dress. I wanted the long train for our Catholic Mass.

I absolutely love this dress, and I totally tried it on when I was dress shopping.

However, as a short bride (barely 5′1″), the length didn’t work on me, either. It was *just* too short to be full length, and *just* too long to be a short dress.

If I had purchased it, I would have had it shortened and de-poofed just slightly….

I saw this one and instantly thought it was so DREAMY! I have been dying to be a short dress bride forever and I likely will…. This has given me motivation to go dress shopping for sure!

I too am a short dress bride. :D
I’m 5′10″ in my stocking feet and since I love love love to wear heels (3″ or better please) even tea length is just a couple of inches past knee length for me. I love 1950’s style swing dress and being a very curvy girl, 1950’s style dresses love me so that’s the way I went.
I considered this dress but never got to try it on. You, Miss Kettle, will look AWESOME in this dress especially with your shoes. Can’t wait to see pictures!

I heart this dress. I’m 5′6” so I guess I’m glad I haven’t tried it on, and can have the fantasy of how pretty it looks on the model. Can’t wait to see pictures of you in it!

I’m also a short dress bride, though not that particular dress (I tried it on and while it’s gorgeous, it did not work on me). I love the short dress look - I love that it’s fun and free and different. I spent a lot of time trying on long dresses just to be sure, but I’m 110% sure I made the right decision. I can’t wait to see yours on you! :)

This is my dream dress! I actually tried it on this past Saturday when I went to pick up my actual dress….it’s the wrong length on me and with all the tulle and crinoline, the alterations would have been outrageous!

@tinylittlebird: Same here! I tried on a knock off of this dress at a store, I thought it was really stunning but it just looked off on me. The length wasn’t right and it was just a bit too much dress for me (I went anti-pouf after that trip). But you’ll look absolutely amazing in this dress Miss Kettle!

LOVE your dress. It was an obsession of mine. I tried it on, but at the end of the day, I couldn’t pull the short dress trigger. Plus, I’m a little too sure for it to work. Can’t wait to see your dress pics!
