Mrs. Brooch's Picture
Mrs. Brooch, Arlington, VA Age and Occupation: 25, Writer/Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Front Desk Manager Engagement Date: October 3, 2009 Wedding Date: April 2011 Venue: Oxon Hill Manor About Me: I’m an indecisive girlie-girl with a motor mouth, can-do attitude, and knack for making others laugh. I dream of becoming a best selling novelist like Elizabeth Gilbert or Julie Powell (a girl can dream, right?), and love long road trips, a beautiful countryside, music, blogs, books, and all things vintage/thrift/antique/or homemade. I’m a Virgo, i.e. overly sensitive, emotional, and critical, and there’s no such thing as short and sweet in my world. I want to say and do it all. Mr. Brooch grounds me. I point where to go and he figures out the way. He’s a pragmatic fancy-pants who enjoys video games and movies. We both adore our mutt, Rocky, and spending time with our amazingly supportive family and friends. We’re planning a garden wedding with a formal reception with lots of whimsy and unique, Southern-inspired details.
About Mrs. Brooch

It was almost time for our first look, but I had to put on some special jewelry first.

You might remember me asking for help finding the perfect accessories for our wedding day.

I contemplated making a necklace but that seemed like too cumbersome of a task. I also thought about buying something from Swarovski—Mr. Brooch has bought me a few items there, which I love—but, the week before the wedding I couldn’t find anything and couldn’t really afford anything, either.

Along with some other small, last-minute wedding dreams, I was kind of upset about it for a day or two; but when it was our wedding day, and I put on the pearl set that my grandmother gave to me (”in case I couldn’t find anything else”), I was so glad that I didn’t buy anything.

I highly recommend wearing something “old” or “borrowed” if it’s from someone who means something to you. It really does make the day and everything in it that much more special.

I am extremely close to my grandmother and it felt so good to wear something special from her.

Wearing the jewelry also made me feel as if I honoring my granddad. Like I mentioned, he gave my grandmother the pearls on their wedding day, something like a billion years ago! My grandmother says she’s going to ask my two younger sisters if they want to wear the set, as well.

My grandfather couldn’t attend the wedding because he has ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis; also know as Lou Gehrig’s disease), but I swear to you: as I put on these earrings, I could see him there beside me. He was healthy, happy, smiling, and moving.

I love you, James! You are amazing.

Will anything you’ll wear on your wedding day have a special significance?

Lovely! I am wearing my grandmother’s aquamarine cocktail ring to my wedding…she has Alzheimers and will not be attending, so I can feel like she’s with me as well :) Hearts your way <3

so beautiful & your photos are stunning! I’m teary-eyed! :)

I wore a hair comb with my veil that my grandmother (who I was very close to, she passed when I was 17) and my mother both wore for their weddings.

That is so touching. I am going to borrow a crystal pendant necklace from my mom that she’s had since highschool. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful mother and I am thrilled that I can wear something of hers on my wedding day!
