Miss Kettle's Picture
Miss Kettle, Chicago, IL Age and Occupation: 26, Non-Profit Donor Resource Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Musician & Teacher Engagement Date: May 29, 2011 Wedding Date: February 2012 Venue: Patrick C. Haley Mansion, Joliet, IL About Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.
About Miss Kettle

Put On Some Pants!

August 23rd, 2011 @ 9:17 am by Miss Kettle

Alternate Post Title: Clothing The Kettle Men. I chose this title because one of my favorite moments in The Hangover. It makes me think of Mr. Kettle because he’s morally opposed to wearing pants when he doesn’t have to. I alluded to that in a comment about MOH Sis in a previous post. Our wedding is such an occasion for which he must wear pants.

Watch the clip here. Around 2:43 is when the pants funniness begins.

Needing to have pants for our wedding, Mr. Kettle went with his best man to find tuxes for the males in our wedding party. There are a lot of males in our wedding party. There is: Mr. Kettle, my best man, his best man, my two guy attendants, and his eight groomsman. Oh, plus both our fathers, two ushers, and two ring bearers. That makes 17! Yikes!

Okay, hive, I just had to get that out. I’m calm.

Mr. Kettle went out that first time and narrowed down the possibilities to two options. I asked him to take photos for the hive… but… well… there aren’t any. He went back with his best man GM Light and another groomsman GM Dark (named for their skin tones; think white chocolate and dark chocolate—they have great skin) to try on the suits again.

The one picture he took shows his preference for clothing. They decided on black tuxes and black vests. Apparently, colored vest look too prom-y. This is what I get for telling Mr. Kettle the clothing was all his decision. The other thing is that he wants to wear an ascot. An ascot!!

Hive, am I being ridiculous for hating the idea of Mr. Kettle in an ascot? He likes it a lot. A lot. I think it makes him look short. I think it makes him look pretentious. He disagrees. I don’t know what to do except let it go and let him wear what he wants so he’s happy in his clothes on our big day. At least the groomsman will be in regular ties…

Here’s a picture from my inspiration board on Weddingwire. It’s more along the lines of what I saw the men wearing.

If you could choose would you go for no ascot or ascot? He would wear a solid one, not a striped one.

Miss Kettle, you are HILARIOUS!Sorry Mr. Kettle, but it is just plain ridiculous. It appears very pretentious, and does give the appearance of being shorter. Trust the estrogen in your life to know what looks good on you. I’m sure she took your feelings into consideration about her dress, wanting you to think she looks beautiful. Do the same for her :)

If its what he really wants let him :) I don’t think the solid one would be as in your face as a stiped one…AND it will help him stand out from the rest of the guys in the wedding party. Even if it is a bit pretentious. You’ll have the rest of your lives to put your foot down over style choices. Best of luck!

I think it makes him lose his neck like it was swallowed in the war or something… Aside from that I think he looks handsome in the rest of the ensemble.

I think the ascot looks rather dapper. Maybe the men could find matching ties, so you would still have continuity. And he can readjust the ascot to be more flat.

I voted yes to the ascot. I think it fits the jazzy coolness of Mr K…..you don’t have to tell him that though! :)

I voted no to the ascot, but YES to the stripes! I love a guy in stripes–the most masculine print. :) What can I say, it was the first thing I noticed about mine…

I’m with you Kettle–I hate ascots! I think they look silly! But in this case, I do think you have to let it go and let Mr. K do his thing! I’m sure that on your wedding day, all you’ll be thinking about is how much you love him and how handsome he looks. :)

I vote yes to the ascot - you gotta let him wear what he wants! Would you let him tell you what shoes you can/can’t wear, or what jewelry?

Ascot, because it’s what he wants. I wouldn’t want Mr. Ladyfingers to tell me what dress to wear, or how to do my hair. So I’m not going to tell him what to wear, even if I hate something he loves.

I used that same picture from the beginning of your post on one of my entries this week haha. I voted no ascot but after thinking about it I’m retracting my vote, because like Miss Parasol and Miss Ladyfingers said I think he should get to decide on his own apparel (though I did veto Mr. Ticket’s request to wear an Orange tux…) within reason haha.

I voted Yes. You get to pick what you’re wearing and he gets to pick what he’s wearing. Besides, how many times in your life can you honestly get away with wearing an ascot? Ties have a normal place in the world but ascots do not. Let him have his way!

I guess it depends on how formal your wedding is. I personally like the ascot, I think it looks really neat.

Haaaa!

Our invitations actually read (in finer print at the bottom): “Come see Chris wear pants!! Augie, you have to wear a tie.”

Hahaaa! Chris is my FH and Augie is his dad.

Alright, so far 53% have said yes to the ascot. As much as I want the ascot gone, Mr. Kettle can not be told what to do. He’s his own man and I love him dearly for that. He read all your comments and he’s still going with the ascot.
But for the record, we both give lots of input on what the other wears. He even picks out my nail polish color so it’s something he likes. I’ve been purple for 2 weeks now, someone help me! Thanks for your input. I guess I’ll be having to do a follow-up post for this.
