The Starfish Honeymoon was perfect. Not perfect in the way you look at photos of a couple at a 5-star resort in some exotic locale and think that honeymoon looks absolutely perfect, but more perfect in the way that Robin Williams explains love to Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting.
“You’re not perfect, sport. And let me save you the suspense. This girl you met, she isn’t perfect either. But the question is whether or not you’re perfect for each other.”

From the outside looking in, our honeymoon was filled with imperfections. We had to do something local due to a lack of vacation time, it rained almost the whole trip, we didn’t go somewhere new or exotic (we opted for our home away from home), and I ended up getting sick. It’s not what I would have ever considered my dream honeymoon, but despite these “imperfections,” it ended up being perfect for us.

We spent our mini-moon in total relax mode. We spent time at some of our favorite Newport spots like the cliffwalk and Salve. We were both super giddy and smiled every time we said “husband” or “wife.” It was crazy to think we had met there seven years ago and our lives were now completely changed because of it.

It was a big trip down memory lane. We went everywhere, from the place we met to the place Mr. S proposed.

We could have spent our time checking out the mansions and going on tours, but instead we did a lot of nothing… and it felt great. Typically I wouldn’t spend a vacation this way, but after the wedding I didn’t really care what we were doing. I was just happy to be together. Mr. Starfish and I had been working opposite schedules at the time and sometimes only saw each other for literally TWO minutes a day (as in, giving a kiss goodbye as we leave for work), so this was pure perfection.
There was a lot of reminiscing. I loved going back to favorite spots and restaurants filled with lots of memories. We got to go to our favorite dates spots like the Mooring and 22’s, where we spent quite a few anniversary and valentines dinners.

And we even tried some new things to make new memories. Rhode Island has a few smaller vineyards, which we never went to in college, so we decided to venture out a bit.

Starfish Mom set up a private sail for us on Newport Harbor. That was the biggest surprise of the trip.

We came home from our honeymoon completely relaxed and reminded of so many great memories together. Was it perfect? No, but it was perfect for us.
How did your dream honeymoon compare to the reality? What made your honeymoon perfect for you?
