Bees, it is time to show you our invites. Every single piece of our invitation suite was designed, printed (except the main invite, which I’ll explain), and assembled by yours truly. Most of the time I hated this process, but looking back, I can truly say they were a labor of love. So, excuse me while I share entirely too many pictures of our invites.
First up, the front of the envelope:
I was so excited when I found out that we could use the Love stamps! Not only because they are only 44 cents, but because I love the designs, especially this one:
As you can see, I decided to go with an oval label. I used my favorite Feel Script font for names and Bell MT for the addresses:
I printed the label for you bees after making the rest of the invites and it turned out quite a bit darker than the rest, so here’s a picture of Papa Pony’s label to show you a more accurate color of the border.
On the back of the envelope, I stamped our return address label in silver ink. I really wanted a nice stamp or embosser, but since the response cards were being sent to Papa Pony’s house rather than our new address, I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on a something that would only get used once. I ended up buying a stamp from Etsy seller My Custom Stamp which was perfect because it allowed me to use my own design, was inexpensive, and shipped quickly.
As our guests carefully opened our envelopes, they were greeted by an envelope liner:
I made the envelope liners from a big pack of scrapbook paper, I loved having a variety of designs to use and personalize to each guest:
Upon removing the envelope (and carefully placing it to the side to admire later), our guests found a little package of invitation goodies tied together with twine.
The first thing our guests saw was our reception card. I wanted each card to have a different design element on it. Mr. Pony helped me create the swag at the top and bottom which I became enamored with after seeing something similar on 100 Layer Cake Blog. I had to trim each card because the printer wouldn’t print all the way to the edge, but it was so worth it as those little dots make me happier than I can describe.
Up next was our response cards. I will be dedicating an entire post to these dreadful cards, but here they are in all their glory. As you can see, we went with the popular bell choices. Mr. Pony loved it from the first time I showed him, so I had to include it in our suite as well.
The back of the response card:
Our response cards came back to me (well, some of them came back to me…) in these pretty gray envelopes. I used our custom stamp again, which looks much better if 90% of the stuff isn’t blurred out.
Annnnnnnnnnnnd finally, our invitation.
Again, they look way better without all the text removed, but you do what you gotta do. I loved the look of all script font on the invite, but I was worried it would look crowded. Sure enough, as soon as I opened them from the printer Papa Pony says to me, “They look kinda busy, don’t they?” Thanks for honing on in my wedding invitation insecurities, dad. But, I had to let it go. Busy or not, they were printed and ready to be sent to our guests. I tried for months to find the perfect free swirl to adorn our invites, but I couldn’t seem to find anything I loved. I finally caved and bought some credits from Shutterstock and purchased this set of vectors to use on this and several other wedding projects and I am so happy with this decision.
I tried to make this picture bigger so that you can read the text on our invitation. We aren’t big fans of traditional invitation wording, so we went with “Because your love and friendship have guided and inspired us, we invite you to witness the wedding of Miss Pony to Mr. Pony. Together we laugh, we love, and today we marry…” Our wording was inspired by the Offbeat Bride post titled Wedding invitation wording that won’t make you barf, which has many fun, nontraditional wording for wedding invitations.
And, probably my most favorite part of our entire invitation suite, our red edge painting. I followed Mrs. Gloss’s tutorial to create this lovely detail. I definitely made some mistakes and it was a pain keeping the cats away from all the drying invites, but I LOVE the final result. It adds a subtle pop of color that I absolutely love.
I decided to print our invites from CatPrint not only because I seriously hate printers (the feeling is mutual), but because I wanted to have a nice straight edge for painting.
All together now:

So, there they are, the Pony invites. In the end, I am very happy with how they turned out and I love the positive feedback we’ve gotten from our guests, but I was SO relieved to have them done and sent out into the world.
Was there any part of your invites that gave you a major headache? Any part that makes you squeal with happiness?
