Shoe Blues Part I

August 26th, 2011 @ 9:15 am by Mrs. Sunhat

When I first started thinking about wedding shoes, I wanted this:

These are the coveted Monolo Blahnik “Something Blue” satin pumps. Did you know that Mr. Blahnik (as I like to call him) custom made these shoes for Ms. Bradshaw to wear for her starring role in the Sex and the City movie? Now these beauties are available for us all to shine in—along with plenty of imitations and knock-offs at greatly reduced prices from the original.

I wanted to be sure these were the only blue shoes that would capture my fancy, so of course I continued the search. Maybe this blue was too bright and I should go with something in navy to match our wedding colors.

The rosette on this Kate Spade shoe is too cute but, at over $300, this one was out of the budget.

The color of this Calvin Klein was perfect and I like the touch of bling, but I’ve never been an ankle-strap-shoe kind of girl. At only 5’2″, an ankle strap was usually a fashion no-no and a good way to make my legs look stumpy. I realize my legs will be covered by my dress but, still, the ankle strap was out.

The Nina Elke was a top contender. The color was great, the bow adorable, and the crystal embellishment added the perfect amount of sparkle.

The Me Too Jeanette comes in the same bright blue color as the Monolos, but the heel height would be very comfortable and I love the bow! These were in the running as well.

There was just one problem with all of this blue goodness. I had failed to ask myself “Am I a colored-shoe bride?!” All of the gorgeous colored-bridal-shoe porn out there had really done a number on me. Pictures of brides with that pop of color under their dresses made me swoon. But was I that kind of bride?

I knew I’d be changing into different shoes for the reception so I only needed these for the ceremony. With the length of my dress, no one was even going to see these shoes unless I purposefully showed them off. And then a thought started to sink in. My bridal look for the day is a lot more traditional than what I originally assumed I would end up with. Maybe this colored-shoe thing really wasn’t for me.

Did you hop on the colored-shoe wagon?

I initially wanted a color shoe but then the formality of my gown made me want pure white shoes with a little sparkle. Maybe I will add some color with my undergarments or the crinoline under my skirt. Or….hahahahaha…maybe even wearing colored ballet slippers when I change out of my heels…I don’t know (indecisive much??)…

Yes. My shoes are royal blue and I covered the heels with hundreds of swarovski crystals. They are beautiful!

I purchased these from Davids Bridal (http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Dyeable-T-Strap-High-Heel-Sandal-with-Jewel-Detail-MEG_Accessories-Shoes-Dyeable) and I’m really on the fence about dying them blue. There are so many decisions! Bright blue? Navy blue? Something in the middle? If I regret it will I then have to buy another pair in white?? I don’t plan to change my shoes from ceremony to reception, so I’m gonna have to live with them all night! I think I’ll probably go for it because I do enjoy being a little different :) My FI says I’m A LOT different in many ways…lol!

I love that you brought up this question. I picked out silver shoes and planned to deck them out in clear, light blue and blue rhinestones. Now that they’re on, I’m not really sure that I like them. I was thinking about taking them off and starting over with just clear rhinestones. Maybe I’m not a colored shoe bride like I thought I would be. It doesn’t really fit with my dress.

I thought about colored shoes, but I decided to go with flats, and I only really liked the colored heels I found. I felt like the colored flats I was coming across weren’t “formal” enough. So I went gray and sparkly instead - a good compromise, I thought, between colored and traditional bridal white ;)

@future.mrs.awe: I think we get caught up in how great colored shoes look in pictures and on other brides before we think about how they will look with our own dress! I’m sure your shoes look amazing - maybe you can use them for rehearsal or other wedding-related events?

I was sure I would, but then I fell heads over heels in love with a pair of dusty/sparkly champagne shoes–they’re leather, perfect for the outdoot wedding on rough terrain.

If I was going to do colored shoes, they would have been aqua. OH YEAH. Seafoam TO THE MAXXX.

@amarissak: I love the Me Too! I may have to get them in an everyday color - they are so comfortable!

I love the color shoe trend, it’s a nice pop of color to break up my otherwise traditional dress choice.

I wanted blue shoes at first too! But then I decided they would stand out more than I wanted, so I went with a sparkly silver pair. I love them!

I love the idea of bold-colored shoes on a wedding day… I think it is a better accent to a white or ivory dress. :)

I cheated. My shoes are colored, but they’re tan, and they’re a similar color as my coffee colored dress. So I’m having color, but just barely. ;)
