About Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

Chop Chop!

August 26th, 2011 @ 1:37 pm by Mrs. Cinnamon Bun

A question I was asked more than once on my wedding was ‘is that ALL your own hair?!’. People seemed impressed when I said yes. I was a little surprised, because at that point, my hair was nowhere near the longest I’ve ever had it—it was about down to my bra strap—for a long time, it was down to my waist! You can see a side-view of my wedding hair-do in this photo.

I like big buns?

I’ve had it all chopped off a few times, and enjoyed the fun of short hair, but never kept up the short haircut, I always grew it out again (which leads to some really awkward this-doesn’t-quite-fit-in-a-ponytail-but-is-long-enough-to-be-annoying-down styles). The past few weeks, my hair had been bothering me. It was too long to do the ‘loop’ where you only pull it through the hair elastic halfway on your last wrap, so it makes that little loop. It wasn’t quite substantial enough for me to make into my regular style of bun that holds itself in with just one hair elastic (twist it until it curls back on itself, secure with elastic) so I chopped it. Bye bye hair!

This is the night before (funny angle because Mr CB was lying in bed when I remembered I wanted a photo taken of the back of my head)

This was the day of the cut, when the stylist wanted to blow it out straight, although I’ll never wear it that way again (takes WAAY too much effort)

And this is how it’ll be most days after my ‘routine’: shower, pat dry, Aveda ‘Be Curly’ curl enhancer, air dry. This photo was after a full day of work, it was a little curlier earlier in the day. I’ve also found that it takes a few days for my hair to realize it doesn’t have all that extra length weighing it down, and that it does know how to curl properly.

Have you ever chopped off all your hair?

Yup, did that after my son was born… NEVER AGAIN! Toooooo often it got in my eyes and hair+contacts=PAIN!
So, it grew out and I only trim it.

yes, three times! each time, it was super-super short, about 1 inch all over.

the first time, I had fried my hair with dye– I dyed it red, then black, then even blacker, and then bleached it. it looked like old barbie doll hair, the kind you can’t brush anymore. it looked like a yellow brillo pad. gross. the worst part was that it was the summer before starting college! I liked my new look at first but was still angry because that haircut was not planned. when it started to grow out, it looked terrible. I ended up wearing a hat every day for an entire year.

the second time was after I got an ugly short haircut that made me look really boring. I had to cut it super short to fix it. again, I cried.

the third time, no excuses. I don’t know why I did it again! and of course I regretted it.

I swear I’ll never make that mistake again, but who knows?

Yup. My normal routine is grow it out really long, get tired of taking care of it, then chop it off to about chin length. Then of course I realize each time that with styling time and more frequent haircuts, short hair takes just as much care as long. I also realize again that I am teeeerrrrible about not getting my hair cut for months on end, and my short ‘do quickly begins to look pretty raggedy. Usually laziness takes over a that point, and I just let it grow long again.

Eeek!! Yes! I chopped a LOT of my hair off about 4 years ago because I had bleached the life out of it. Luckily it grew back quickly and is longer than ever before! I will keep it long until after the wedding. Although, I do not think I will do as dramatic of a cut as you did post-wedding. However, your wavy ‘do is super sassy! I love it!

hmm

hmm. i much prefer your longer hair. why do brides get gorgeous before/for their weddings and as soon as they marry they chop and get plain jain again. Makes me think their hubbys would much prefer the fox and not the soccer mom before she even has kids.

I have curly hair too, and I agree that it takes my hair a few days after being cut to curl properly again. I’m glad I’m not the only one this happens to!! :)
