Many of us know the trials of LD relationships and understand that it’s hard keeping in touch when you’re separated by 7000km and several time zones. By the time the wedding arrives, I won’t have seen her for over 14 months. Yes, her. I’m talking about my wedding dress, of course!
Sabelle and I started dating online last June and met for the first time on my Zivilstand day. She’s been good to me over the months and while I don’t hear from her that often, Mama Funnel Cake sends me photos and keeps me up-to-date on her life.
I’m sure I’ve stared at the photos of us together a million times by now, and I’m always left wanting more. Photos make me wish I could be near her so I can press her soft lining against my skin, run my fingers over her delicate beading, and try her on over and over and over.
Luckily for me, Sabelle happens to be a rather “popular” dress with the ladies. Thanks to bees in the hive and stories of Maggie Brides, I have access to hundreds of pictures of my dress on real brides. Really. Hundreds. (You’ll see when this is done loading…)
Whew! Did you make it?

Here are a few of my favourites from the Maggie Brides:
I devoured images of brides wearing my dress while I contemplated decisions about veils, jewelry, and shoes. Seeing what other people did made decisions easier when my Sabelle is so far away. Soon I’ll turn to their photos again as I determine my hair and makeup aspirations. But as much as I loved seeing brides wear my dress, I started to get a little nagging twitch about how popular it was. Had I really just chosen a strapless dress that so many other women had worn?
I began to feel a little guilty about my gown being trite. At this point, Sabelle is not exactly a new dress. Obviously if you are buying a used dress, it’s not going to be cutting edge, but the overwhelming amount of images of other brides running around the Internet with their strapless Sabelle gowns troubled me.
How could I “own” my Sabelle? With the red shoes and petticoat, I would have a daring flash of colour beneath the dress that I have not seen the same way on a Sabelle bride yet. But I wasn’t sure that was enough. Maybe my Sabelle needed something more… maybe she needed a bolero to give her that extra lil’ something.
…and that is how my arduous search for a jacket began.
Are you and your dress doing long distance? Be honest, I’m not the only one stalking my dress on the internet am I?!
