A Long Distance Relationship

August 29th, 2011 @ 10:55 am by Mrs. Funnel Cake

Many of us know the trials of LD relationships and understand that it’s hard keeping in touch when you’re separated by 7000km and several time zones. By the time the wedding arrives, I won’t have seen her for over 14 months. Yes, her. I’m talking about my wedding dress, of course!

Sabelle and I started dating online last June and met for the first time on my Zivilstand day. She’s been good to me over the months and while I don’t hear from her that often, Mama Funnel Cake sends me photos and keeps me up-to-date on her life.

I’m sure I’ve stared at the photos of us together a million times by now, and I’m always left wanting more. Photos make me wish I could be near her so I can press her soft lining against my skin, run my fingers over her delicate beading, and try her on over and over and over.

Luckily for me, Sabelle happens to be a rather “popular” dress with the ladies. Thanks to bees in the hive and stories of Maggie Brides, I have access to hundreds of pictures of my dress on real brides. Really. Hundreds. (You’ll see when this is done loading…)

Whew! Did you make it?

Here are a few of my favourites from the Maggie Brides:

I devoured images of brides wearing my dress while I contemplated decisions about veils, jewelry, and shoes. Seeing what other people did made decisions easier when my Sabelle is so far away. Soon I’ll turn to their photos again as I determine my hair and makeup aspirations. But as much as I loved seeing brides wear my dress, I started to get a little nagging twitch about how popular it was. Had I really just chosen a strapless dress that so many other women had worn?

I began to feel a little guilty about my gown being trite. At this point, Sabelle is not exactly a new dress. Obviously if you are buying a used dress, it’s not going to be cutting edge, but the overwhelming amount of images of other brides running around the Internet with their strapless Sabelle gowns troubled me.

How could I “own” my Sabelle? With the red shoes and petticoat, I would have a daring flash of colour beneath the dress that I have not seen the same way on a Sabelle bride yet. But I wasn’t sure that was enough. Maybe my Sabelle needed something more… maybe she needed a bolero to give her that extra lil’ something.

…and that is how my arduous search for a jacket began.

Are you and your dress doing long distance? Be honest, I’m not the only one stalking my dress on the internet am I?!

Oh, man, Miss Funnel Cake, your dress will be fabulous. Your petticoat is going to make that dress rockin’.

Your dress is amazing, I must say of all the brides you posted in the dress I still think it looked best on you in earlier posts. Can’t wait to see it with your petticoat.

My friend just got married at the end of July and she wore the Sabelle. There is a beautiful bolero that goes with the dress, but she didn’t like the neckline (it was quite high and pointy) so she cut it off and sewed it. It looked amazing. Se ordered the bolero from the same place she ordered her dress though.

Have you seen Mrs. Earring’s shrug? She got it here (this is the red one) http://www.etsy.com/listing/75572252/cherry-deep-red-raw-silk-bolero and I have it in orange. So beautiful. AND a fun way to add color.

BTW. I just realized something. In the photos of your red crinoline, you were wearing the hoop OVER the crino. Aren’t you wearing it under? Or am I making that up?!

Your dress IS popular, but it also looks very different on everyone who wears it. :)

If you’re still having troubles finding a red petticoat, there’s a place where I’m getting my dusty rose chiffon petticoat (http://www.pettiskirtstyle.com/petticoatslip.htm) and they’re reasonably priced. Just FYI.

@Miss Ticket: Ticket you are SO sweet! :)

@PrincessPeeps: oh that sounds cool! I would be interested to see what that looks like!

@CameraGirl87: I have seen Mrs. Earring’s awesome shrug, but I’m all about colour under the dress. Not sure why, but I want to have a white jacket. :) And yeah, I actually have to wear my criny under the hoopskirt. If I would wear it over the hoopskirt, it would puff my dress out too much and it’d end up too short. I even have to wear the hoops in pretty small circles to make sure I’m not too tall. Can’t help being 5′9″. :)

Your dress is beautiful — who cares if a lot of other people have worn it! You all just have great taste! I totally would have stalked my dress, but I couldn’t find anyone else who wore it!

i wondered about having a dress that is popular with many others when i first started searching. quickly, i realized that, my goodness, the bride makes the dress. all the pictures you shared in this post you “claim” are the same dress, but i questioned it the first few times i looked through them lol they all look completely different because of their bridal styles. your flash of red deliciousness will even further make it yours. that dress is phenomenal. congratulations on a perfect pick!
