Dressing for the Party

August 29th, 2011 @ 9:52 am by Mrs. Teaspoon

Originally my bridesmaids were planning on surprising me with a dress that I would wear for the entire evening of my kitchen tea/hens’ night, however, this was making me extremely nervous. I know how long it takes me to find a dress for myself, how possible would it be for someone to find me a dress that I was likely to like?

The only pre-requisite that I knew about the dress was that it would be appropriate for a floral themed event, so I would think it would look something like this:

However, I was fearful that I could also end up in a situation similar to this:

So, with much worrying on my part and whining to my Mum, in addition to much stress and hours of internet searching later, Bridesmaid M decided it was easier on everyone if I just bought my own dress of the floral persuasion. I let out an audible sigh of relief when she told me this over the phone one evening. I was so relieved. I knew my dress would fit, I knew I would like it, and it would be one less thing for me to stress over. I still had to find a dress though. Well, luckily I had been strolling past a beautiful shop the week before, which I later found out to be N8kd Decision, and they had the most perfect dress in the window. So, I high-tailed back there the following morning to see if they still had it.

Success!!

Here she is on the hanger:

It is a little shorter than I imagined wearing, but what they heck; I am wearing stockings underneath. And they’re my hens—I’ll show a little leg if I want to—they are in the best shape they have been for quite some time. Anyway, they’ll definitely be hidden under my wedding dress!

You will of course have to wait until the pictures of my kitchen tea to see a teaspoon modeling in action!

Would you ever let your bridesmaids (or anyone) choose your garments for any of your wedding parties?

I would never! I love my friends, but I would be too afraid of getting a size too small or too big! Plus we all have such distinct personalities and different tastes…it would be fun to go shopping together and see what they pick, but as far as wearing whatever they bring me? No way! Love the dress you chose! :)

Adorable! I would not let my friends buy me a dress. Things just fit my body too weirdly!

What a cute dress! I would be very relieved to buy my own dress too, we definitely know our bodies and style the best.

Love the dress! No I wouldn’t let anyone pick out an outfit/dress/whatever for me to wear. I may take their opinions, but that would be the extent of that. :-)

beautiful dress!!!!
I’d be too afraid at what they’d come up with for me! LOL! My girls… are, well, unique. I’m pretty sure they’d love to take me shopping and give me a complete make-over (some of the girls I know LOVE doing that, lol), but I’m not sure if I’d like the styles they would choose for me! LOL!

Yay cute dress! I would hate to rely on someone else picking out a dress for me, glad you got to pick your own.

I don’t even let my FI buy clothes for me. Well, I could let a couple of friends buy my outfits for me. I tend to lean towards Jcrew/Banana Republic type dresses. I’m not too edgy I’m afraid :(

Super cute! Yeah- I don’t think letting someone else pick out my dress would work too well for me. I’m happy you got to pick what you wanted!

It depends. My girls have more fancy taste than I, but I’m much more conservative with lengths and sleeves. Love the dress you picked!

Love that dress! I agree that I would not want anyone else picking out a dress for me. Show that leg Teaspoon!

My girls and I have shopped together so many times over the years we’ve known each other (10+ at least each) that I totally trust their knowledge of my taste and size.
Still, I’m glad you got to pick your own dress since it was a source of stress. Can’t wait to see what it looks like!
