Trying to find the perfect location for our engagement party seemed like a big deal, but only to me and Momma Kettle. Grandmother Kettle kept reminding me that she’d never been to an engagement party before so she didn’t see the big deal.
I reminded her she’d just never been invited to one before, so that wasn’t quite the same thing as it being some made-up newfangled party for Mr. Kettle and me.
I do think my mother and I made it more difficult on ourselves than we had to, though. We went through several idea before we settled on one that worked.

Plan: Sit-Down Dinner At a Restaurant; like Maggiano’s in Chicago
Why It Seemed Great: Imagine that picture, except for an engagement party instead of a wedding reception. All of our family gathered for the type of food Chicagoans constantly drool over.
Why It Didn’t Work:

As we patiently wait for our wedding photos, I thought I’d give a little run-down of what happened in the week after our wedding.
The Mr and I both had the week after the wedding off, and nowhere to go. As much as it would have been fabulous to jet off to a tropical island right after the wedding, it was nice to have time to decompress and relax in our own home. Although we did manage to keep ourselves busier than we thought we would be! Mr CB was off out of town to work exactly a week after our wedding, so there was some stuff that we decided to try and get done while we were still together.
On the Monday after the wedding, we returned the keys to the venue (with some bottles of wine in thanks), returned the keg cooler, paid the caterer the last half of our payment, delivered a spare pie to Mr CB’s work, and bought out our registry. Yup, we took all the gift cards we’d received (we opened stuff on the Sunday) and headed straight to the Bay. The sales associates’ eyes lit up as we started piling things on the counter! “Six of these, 4 more of those, where’s that blender?” We also went out to dinner with my mum one last time before everyone left.

Why the guys were hanging out in their hotel and taking pictures at the venue, the girls were rushing to get ready. At this point, hair and makeup were done and it was time to rush off to the venue… and I’m not kidding when I say “rush”!
My bridesmaids cleaned up our room in a fury (we were checking out and leaving for the venue simultaneously), and we all rushed down to the parking garage. There were about nine of us total, and we were in three different cars. My maid of honor led the pack driving me and my mom—at the speed of lightning—around the corner to our venue. Again, thank goodness it was close! The drive was probably 5 minutes and it went by so fast that I didn’t quite get a chance to prepare myself for that feeling that hits you when you’re walking up to your venue on your wedding day! Wow. It’s pretty amazing.
Awaiting me inside was the bridal suite that had sealed the deal for us in choosing Exon Hill, and all my beautiful things. Can you see my dress in the reflection of the mirror?

It’s been one year of confusion, bees. A year ago today, Mr. Funnel Cake and I spent two minutes signing a paper that legally joined us, and since that day, we haven’t quite known how to refer to each other.
(Personal photo)
A long time ago, when I first started learning German with Rosetta Stone, I wanted to impress Mr. Funnel Cake and tell him he was my man auf Deutsch. So in a Skype date I cheerily said, “Du bist mein Mann!”
Mr. Funnel Cake gaped at me. Crap. What did I do??

We hope you’re enjoying our ongoing honeymoon series! Margaret from the new travel site Enrout is back this week to share with us her ideas for Miss Cannon’s Philly honeymoon! Revisit Margaret’s great honeymoon series on Weddingbee here.

Greetings everyone! This week, we’re planning a honeymoon for the wonderful Miss Cannon. Miss Cannon is planning a boisterous shindig full of color, bbq, and beer! She’s a busy lady who never has a dull moment between work, graduate school, wedding planning, and her adorable daughter. It sounds like she could really use some R&R. Here’s how I envision the Cannons spending a few days in the historic city of Philadelphia on a $2,000 budget.

Philadelphia - What To Do
Since the Cannons are beer lovers (and who isn’t), a great way to get to know the city and kick off the honeymoon celebration would be a tour of Philadelphia’s many beer breweries. After all, Philadelphia was named of the best cities for beer in the world by Frommers. The Cannons could pick up a few tips on brewing by taking a tour of the Philadelphia Brewing Company.
Hello, Hive! I’m excited to share some photos from our recent local bee meet up in San Jose, California, on Wednesday, August 10. Our group hosts a monthly meeting for all comers in Santana Row and we’ve been getting together since May.
It’s a great time to associate real people with their online avatars. We’ve established a tradition of dinner at Pasta Pomodoro restaurant followed by dessert at Ben & Jerry’s ice cream or Pinkberry frozen yogurt.

Each month we’ve added a new face or two to the group. Meeting strangers from the internet could be intimidating, and I think breezybri19 speaks for all of us when she describes the experience:

Holding our wedding on New Year’s Eve wasn’t something I had ever thought of prior to our engagement. I knew that I wanted a winter wedding, so once we looked at the calendar and saw that NYE fell on a Saturday, a light bulb went off. Why not ring in the new year with my new husband surrounded by all the people we love?!
I have never been to a New Year’s Eve wedding, so I needed some inspiration. We wanted the overall feel of the night to be celebratory, but with a warm, cozy, winter atmosphere.
I wasn’t too hopeful that I would find much inspiration—but I was wrong wrong wrong!

Every time I visit the mystical and magical site known as Etsy, I want to buy something! Now if that isn’t dangerous I don’t know what is.
To date I have made nearly 20 purchases from Etsy since Mr. Ticket and I first got engaged. I figured now would be a good time to share some of the awesome little details with you.
First purchase from amazing Etsy seller BeachHouseLiving
Mr. Cannon and I had a joint wedding shower with our friends and family back in my hometown recently. It was fiesta themed, which is a fancy way of saying there was Mexican food. We also had margaritas and my sister made us wear sombreros. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a pinata. But it was nice to get everyone together even though I was a complete wreck during the whole thing. My final project and final exam for school were due the day of my shower, so I was not focused on the party aspect.
We arrived at the same time as my grandma, her husband, and some of our friends. One of my sisters had decorated with bright colors and my other sister was making margaritas. My mom was getting all the food set up, and we got situated and started talking to our guests. It didn’t take long before Cherry Bomb grabbed my margarita off the table when I was distracted and dumped it all over both of us. (In her defense, the margaritas were in pretty hot pink glasses, so I can see why she was so excited about grabbing one.) Luckily, my cousin had some extra clothes for her daughter that I could put Cherry Bomb in, and my grandma had brought up a dress she made for me that I could change into. Then my mom went to her house and got Cherry Bomb a dress she had bought for Cherry Bomb so we were able to give my cousin back her daughter’s extra outfit. So, Cherry Bomb went through three costume changes over the course of this 2.5 hour party. Apparently she didn’t want the paparazzi catching her in the same outfit twice.
My sister claims to have invented the game she had us play first.

Everyone says how important it is to get a guest list together before you get too deep into wedding planning. Those people would be 100% right. Because we only had a tentative guest list of around 250 people, we felt confident that all the venues we were looking at would work no problem.
Mr. Kettle and I, Momma and Daddy Kettle, FSIL Grand, and Mema and Dad Kettle all sat down and hashed out a preliminary guest list. But then the numbers began creeping up. Mema Kettle thought of more people who had to be invited. Most were family, so we added them.
I have no idea what the total number of people was who were suggested to be on the list. But I think, between the seven of us, that list had the potential to be almost 500 people had we included everyone. That definitely wasn’t going to work.
In that first meeting, I saw my dreams of a smaller guest-list wedding going away and never coming back. I reassessed my priorities and realized it was probably better to include more people if it fit in the budget because that meant a bigger party and more people there we cared about.
So, you must be asking, where does the rebellion come in? The fight I had on my hands to get everyone’s addresses required a bit of rebellion on my part and Mr. Kettle’s part, too.

…and how to avoid it? Well, not quite yet, but by the time it comes to our wedding day, I sure hope so!
What is overhang, you ask? I’m not sure what everyone else calls it, but it;s that little obstacle that is associated with a strapless dress. (Ohhhh, did you pick up on that small dress hint?) It’s just a small piece of boob tissue that naturally occurs and according to the woman at the dress store is something that everyone has. Although I don’t like that it’s all I can see when I look at the photos of myself in my wedding dress.
You see, I also come across this issue in other dresses, not just the strapless kind. This is a photo of my girlfriends and me at a friend’s wedding. We are all having fun and look great. Of course all I can see is that excess skin trying to escape the side of my dress.
I am third from the left in the peach/beige coloured dress. (Personal photo)
I forgot to tell you about our card swap early in our wedding day. Months before the wedding, Mr Hot Wings and I decided we would gift each other with cards on our wedding day. We never mentioned it again. So I was really happy when I got my card that day. He remembered! We both actually wrote our messages earlier that morning to send our love to one another. We both were definitely on the same page. So, before the start of the day’s ceremonies, we exchanged cards.

We weren’t hell bent on doing the traditional tosses since the single population in our crowd was very slim. I was ready to forgo them until I read Mrs. Hamster’s post on Weddingbee. Adding gift cards to the bouquet and garter would open it up to all guys and gals and we could get some awesome pictures.
