Well, we had to sleep somewhere, right?

We stayed at the Kimpton Vintage Plaza. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was we had such a great experience at the Kimpton Serrano Hotel on our San Francisco engagement trip. Another reason we chose this hotel was the amazing “Starlight Rooms.” I came into the room and immediately raised the blinds!

And a Flower in Her Hand?

August 8th, 2011 @ 1:56 pm by Mrs. Teaspoon

So now on to the closest to living element of the wedding day, other than the people in it, of course—the flowers! Included with our reception venue are the floral centrepieces, and we just have a few hundred to choose from out of their book of designs. So, the bouquets are what I have been concentrating on, and namely MY bouquet!

I thought I would just go with a bunch of white roses for me and a bunch of slightly smaller white roses for my girls—now I’m not so sure, as I have been thrust into a world of ridiculously creative and beautiful weddings to be found in the world of the blogger! Bridal magazines hardly help, either.

Then I was over at my future in-laws house one evening in September last year, and they had been to the growers’ markets that day and bought some flowers—beautiful white ranunculus. Lucky me, I took a pretty little picture for my ever-expanding wedding file, because at the time I had NO idea what they were called!

Mrs. Macarons, Tampa Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man Engagement Date: September 12, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Lange Farm About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
About Mrs. Macarons

While Macs and I hoped for an adults-only celebration, it wasn’t in the cards. A few of our nearest and dearest are traveling great lengths (we’re talking internationally) to come celebrate with us. There’s no way we’d expect them to leave their little ones back home, let alone at a hotel with a sitter they’ve never met.

Everyone has assured me their children are well behaved but I’d like to stack the deck in our favor just to be safe. I know the foofers will be a big hit, what toddler doesn’t like throwing things? But I needed something else to keep them occupied up until that point.

Coloring books are quite popular but any old ones simply wouldn’t do. I was going to illustrate my own (yes, I’m that crazy) but that idea was immediately thrown out the window when I found these:

Mrs. Taco's Picture
Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.

Ancient Civilizations Tour: Athens

Ancient Civilizations Tour: Athens : wedding honeymoon san francisco 1 1

Note: We touched down in Athens, spent an evening/night there, then left early the next morning to go to Santorini. We came back to Athens for another few days after we returned from the island, so I’m consolidating the whole city experience into one post.

Athens is large — at more than 3-million residents — and dense. It’s fairly gritty and urban, which reminded me of a lot of my favorite cities, including the one I live in. It didn’t seem to have many new buildings — built or in progress — or structures. The Greek economy fell apart in 2010, so these things are surely connected. Even as a tourist in the center of town, it was fairly obvious.

I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.

Inspiration Overload

August 8th, 2011 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Bacon

I’ve spent the last year (and some change) watching every wedding TV show around: Four Weddings, Platinum Weddings, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, and the list goes on—anything with a white dress in it was locked in on our TiVo. I’m the girl that had a subscription to Brides before I was even engaged. Really. I was combing all the wedding blogs I’d ever thought of on a daily basis. I have been living in wedding inspiration central what seems like forever and this tulle induced haze has been magnificent.

But here’s the reality: we’re just over one month from the wedding and if I get any more inspiration and add any more projects to my list, the Baconator might explode. As it is, we might be a teensy bit over the budget and we just spent the whole last weekend completing wedding projects. So to avoid adding some uber cute bunting or another paper and ribbon project, I’m giving my stack of wedding magazines away and I’m deleting my scheduled recordings of wedding TV and I’m slowly starting to accept that my days of wedding planning are numbered.

Haley Mansion, Joliet, IL About Me: I'm a city girl who loves a good escape, so I'm planning a Chicago wedding outside of the city. I've been described as a quirky yet down-to-earth drama queen who loves fiercely. I used to be a scientist, but now I'm learning to navigate the world of non-profit organizations. I love cooking, blogging, shopping, and music, and movies (Hans Zimmer is my favorite movie composer). Mr. Kettle and I had a short courtship and now we have a happy home with our cat-who-thinks-she's-people, Belle. We spend our days and nights with good food, live music, video games, family, and friends. Our wedding has become this wonderful excuse to bring together hundreds of people we can't bear to be without.
About Miss Kettle

In this saga toward being engaged, I left off at my decision that I wanted Mr. Kettle all for my very own. That was right around the time he decided he only wanted to date the other woman he was already dating when he met me.

Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!

You and Me: Suit Up!

August 8th, 2011 @ 11:10 am by Mrs. Jaguar

The boys didn’t purchase their suits for our wedding, they hired them. This seems to go against most of the trends in wedding world right now, but all of the groomsmen agreed that they didn’t particularly need another suit, so this option worked perfectly for us.

The Proposal

August 8th, 2011 @ 10:42 am by Mrs. Ticket

Sister Ticket and I decided to go out shopping on Saturday afternoon. Nothing particularly special, just a day out with my sister and niece. As we walked around the mall I admitted to Sister Ticket that I secretly hoped Mr. Ticket was ring shopping as we were out. I didn’t know why, but I just had this “feeling” that he was going to be. But I was SURE I had blown it by making some comment earlier that same day about proposals. (Darn my impatience!) Sure enough after we finished shopping and I headed over to Mr. Ticket’s apartment, he was sitting in precisely the same position I had left him in HOURS earlier in his “comfy” clothes (basketball shorts and a grungy old T-shirt) playing Call of Duty. With that, I pouted into his kitchen to make dinner and forgot all about my “feeling.”

We Interrupt These Recaps…

August 8th, 2011 @ 10:14 am by Ms. Sloth

to bring you pictures of my new Post-Wedding Chop!

Honestly, this chop had nothing to do with the fact that our wedding is now over, and had everything to do with the fact that, regardless of timing, my hair looked ratty, shapeless, and just plain awful. It had more split ends than I’d ever seen. It was just time.

So I decided to follow the lead of many of my fellow bees (see Crepe, Hyena, Barrettes, Glasses, Pretzel, Plaid, Sand Dollar, Hot Wings, Lamb, Guinea Pig, Poodle, Buttons, Cheeseburger, Cowboy Boot, and a whole lot more) and choppity chop chop it off.

As a reminder, here’s a before photo:

Thanks for Coming!

August 8th, 2011 @ 9:46 am by Mrs. Teaspoon

So I am particularly diligent when it comes to giving thanks where thanks is due, in particular if we go to someone’s house for a lovely dinner—thank you card; when we attend a wedding that is amazing—thank you card; and when we received the insanely generous gifts both before and at our engagement party—thank you card.

Originally we were quite partial to the non-photograph thank you cards: just a simple pattern or image on the front and straight to the point inside. However, we then received a thank you card with a wedding photo in the mail from a wedding we were unable to attend, and it was beautiful! We popped that wedding photo straight on our fridge. Luckily that was before we negotiated our photography package!

Now, included with our photography package (thanks to some hard bargaining on our part) are thank you cards to send to our guests after the wedding.

So, with that part decided, now what to do with the photo? There are so many creative brides out there who inspire me to do something amazing! I absolutely LOVE this…but it somewhat defeats the purpose of having a wedding photo on there, as you can’t actually see the bride and groom’s faces.

Mrs. Parasol's Picture
Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

As with all things in life, a wedding requires sacrifice. You have this vision of what you want, but nine times out of ten it’s just not possible to make that exact vision come to life. And more often than not, it comes to down money.

Every little aspect of a wedding costs money, from the photography to each stamp on the invitations, and pretty soon it all starts to add up. Few brides and grooms can splurge on everything, so they have to make sacrifices. Sometimes these are easy because it’s something you don’t really care about, but sometimes these sacrifices are really, really hard.

Mr. Parasol and I are no exception, and we have made quite a few wedding sacrifices along the way.
