Wedding Invitations Craze

September 1st, 2011 @ 10:15 am by Miss Warbler

I’m getting way ahead of myself, but lately I’ve been obsessing about wedding invitations. Why am I worrying about that when I haven’t even booked a photographer yet? Because I’ve been following Jessica Claire’s blog, and it’s pretty amazing. Jessica is a photographer who recently married and has been sharing her creative ideas. For her invitations she took a bunch of old hardcover books, hollowed them out, and placed her invitations inside. The finished product looked like this:

Since I want to incorporate my love for books and overall nerdiness into the wedding, I desperrately wanted to copy her invitations. I went out and scoured used bookstores for cheap old hardcovers. But when it came down to it, I couldn’t bear the thought of slicing apart a book. Even if it is for an artsy project. I did want to do something with books, so I hit Google and found these beauties:

Gorgeous hardcover classics from one of my favorite publishers? Yes. Penguin is releasing more every day, but so far the titles include Sense and Sensibility (above), Little Women, The Divine Comedy, A Christmas Carol, The Odyssey, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Great Expectations, Treasure Island, and more. I have an idea of how I want to use them, but I’m not telling yet. I will say that I am definitely NOT slicing these babies up.

More on that later! Right now I want to share a wedding-invitation video I came across on Vimeo. It was super cute and almost swayed me away from my book idea. I also want to use the song in the ceremony somehow—it’s so beautiful.

Enjoy!

I’m excited to see your invites and how you use your books. The video invitation was so cute! If I thought I could pull it off I would give it a try.

I recently sliced up a book for a wedding project, but I spent a long time in second hand store looking for books that would be really boring (and the right size for my project!)

Those are amazing invitations, but I would feel so guilty slicing up such beautiful books too!

I LOVE those new book covers. There’s another collection of freshly re-designed classics to catch your fancy, too: http://www.penguin.com.au/search/results/clothbound%20classic

And though they’re a bit darker in color, a few more here too: http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/simpleSearch.do?simpleSearchString=fine+edition

I’ve been in love with those Penguin classics for a while.

Maybe you could make your invitation the story of you two and use the Penguin book covers as graphic inspiration.

That’s a great idea, but I have to agree with you. No way I could cut up a book.

This is super neat! What a creative idea! I love that everything for invitation is organized and has compartments and it won’t all fall out on you.

Slice the books! SLICE THEM! So many books died for our wedding, and they didn’t mind. I figured if I was buying it for $0.50 from the library, it had had a good life already.
I did buy some pretty old books for about $5 each, but they were used whole for decor.
