Leading The Way

September 1st, 2011 @ 1:10 pm by Mrs. Macarons

Like most brides I had an overly ambitious DIY list. As time went by, projects were shifted around based on importance, and some were removed all together. One of those projects (or so I thought) was making a directional sign like the ones that keep popping up across the wedding blogosphere.

Oh, how I really wanted one but I had no idea how to go about finding some old weathered wood or someone with the tools to cut them. I mentioned the idea to my mom in passing the week before my shower not thinking much of it. Bless my dad’s heart as he decided to go ahead and replace some fencing just so I could have a few signs!

I sent my dad a quick mock up in illustrator of what I had in mind for the shape and size of the signs thinking the engineer in him would appreciate the technical details. This was the response I got:

“The angle of the arrow point you drew is 80 degrees and the arrow tail is 90 degrees—did you notice and intend to have them different? It looks fine since a point is normally sharper. One other question: do you want them sanded or left the weathered grey color they are??”

Now I know where I got my attention to detail from. I told him it’d be great and that I’d pick them up when I’d be in town for my final fitting. Turns out I had another surprise waiting for me right after my amazing shower:

Didn’t they turn out awesome?

I my dad. He even sanded over the white paint a little. Did anyone surprise you by taking on a project you otherwise wouldn’t have gotten to?

Daddy Macs should open his own etsy shop! PapaCS told MamaCS the other night that he couldn’t do the dishes because he was busy looking for a card box for me. I heart Daddies!

@Miss Cucumber Sandwich: I agree! Too many times daddies are over looked.
@Ocean: Thanks! I’ll pass the suggestion on but he was really stressing out over making them perfect :)
@Fixin2BMrs.Awesome: Yeah, they’re not something I’ll be quick to get rid of. Not sure of how I can repurpose them though.
