Please Leaf Your Thumbprint

September 1st, 2011 @ 2:26 pm by Mrs. Sunhat

Making the guestbook decision was quick and easy. I ran a “winter wedding” search on Etsy and found this:

I thought it was perfect and Mr. Ball Cap really liked it too. At the time, I had never seen a thumbprint-tree guestbook before. I liked the uniqueness of it and that we’d be able to hang it in our home to remind us of those loved ones who attended our day.

Inevitably, after I placed our order, I started seeing similar guestbooks pop up all over the web. Turns out, I hadn’t found such a unique idea after all! But this happens to us all, doesn’t it? It doesn’t take long for one great, unique idea to spread like wildfire amongst the wedding-planning community. The lovely Mrs. Elephant discussed this very guestbook issue here.

I have to admit, I was a little sad at first when I realized that so many people already knew of the guestbook tree. But then again, I actually hadn’t seen it until my search on Etsy. I’ve never been to a wedding where they have used this particular style of guestbook, and I’m betting most of our guests haven’t either. When you immerse yourself in wedding planning, it can seem like everyone has the same ideas. You just have to keep reminding yourself that your guests aren’t in wedding-planning mode 24/7 like you are and more than likely won’t have seen many, or even most, of your fabulous ideas and surprises.

So thankfully I didn’t doubt my decision for very long. And when our guestbook arrived in the mail, I couldn’t have been more thrilled!!

I’m looking forward to seeing all of our guests’ thumbprints and signatures. We will have to test out various pens to see which one will work best and not smear. The seller provided two white ink pads along with a display sign asking our guests to please “leaf” their thumbprints. For a frame, and nicer presentation, I went to IKEA and purchased the Virserum frame.

At about $26, it will do the trick!

So what “unique” idea do you have for your guestbook?

I love the thumbprint guestbooks! I feel like most people who aren’t inundated with wedding blogs will still be blown away by how unique it is - no worries :)

I love the thumbprint guestbook! We are doing a manzanita tree with hanging tags, which is also EVERYWHERE. Oh well, if I could have splurged I love the guest book puzzles but they are pricey!

I am on the same page with you. I am also planning for this kind of guest book. It will be a great decoration for the house after the wedding. :)

I love thumbprint guestbooks, I think they are beautiful and much more likely to be *looked* at than something that will sit on a shelf!

I love the thumbprint guestboook! I definitely wanted something that would be looked at and enjoyed rather than stuff in a drawer and forgotten about!

We opted for The Wedding Tree BUT…no thumbprints..the leaves are already on the tree and the guests just have to sign in the leaves! Love it! Got in on Etsy of course..I ordered the PDF at noon and she had the file to me by 5:00 that day! I emailed it to Fed Ex Kinkos and I had it the same day!

I’m actually doing this as well :) I felt the same way as you, seeing it all over the internet and not sure if I wanted to do it, but again, no one I know has ever done it at a wedding or heard of it, so I think it’s a great idea :) My future hubby actually drew our tree so that saved us money and it looks so great! I can’t wait to hang it up after the wedding!

We are having our guests sign wine bottles that coordinate with our anniversaries. One Year, Five, Year, 10 Year and Twenty Five Year. That way we can enjoy each of the bottles and put them on display in our “wine” themed kitchen.

We bought a big canvas and a bag of ga anagrams tiles. We’re gonna ask people to use the tiles to create a puzzle of love/wedding themed words, and sign around the border to form a “frame”. When we get home, we’ll re-create the guests’ puzzle (with the help of a photo) and glue the tiles in place so we can hang it up :)

I still don’t know what to do for our guestbook. But we’ll have people at our wedding who might have warrants (i’m only half joking), so nothing collecting fingerprints for us. I like the polaroid idea, but that could get quite costly depending on how many of our 300+ guests RSVP yes…

I found this really cool thumb print wedding tree, it looks like a higher quality than other ones out there. I like that it has everything I will need y in the kit, including the wipes! But mostly I think these are really unusual trees, I just love the colors. http://www.leafyourlove.com
