About Mrs. Pony

Behind the Lens

September 2nd, 2011 @ 12:45 pm by Mrs. Pony

When it comes to wedding photography, we Ponies are vain. We want don’t want to look good in our wedding photos, we want to look awesome. Knowing this, we set out very early in our planning process to find the perfect photographer that could make us Ponies look great.

Stylistically, Mr. Pony and I wanted someone that could capture all of the ’must have moments’ in the wedding (e.g. first kiss, walking down the aisle, etc.) as well as the candid moments that we can’t articulate on a shot list.

We also preferred a photographer that focuses on natural looking elements and colors as opposed to vintage-y or heavily Photoshopped coloring and styling. I love the that style, but I want to look back on our pictures and be able to feel the day as we experienced it through our photos, and heavily Photoshopped photos makes me feel like I’m dreaming or something.

Even though we contacted over ten photographers in our area, Mr. Pony and I narrowed down our choices and met with just our top two choices. And they did not disappoint. I was seriously afraid that we would not be able to decide on one photographer because both were incredibly talented with wonderful personalities. But we had to choose one.

I knew very quickly which photographer I wanted for our wedding because I was simply drawn to her images every time I click on her blog (which is frequently), but I also wanted Mr. Pony to have a say in the decision without my influence (remember, this was early in the planning process, definitely doesn’t happen that way now). After reviewing both photographers’ portfolios I was so excited when Mr. Pony said his top pick was mine as well. And with that, the Ponies agreed that the super talented and all around amazing Jamie Grant would photograph our wedding.

She focuses on natural light photography with minimal editing.

She captures the iconic moments of a couple’s wedding day beautifully.

And she captures the candid moments that will make a couple laugh, cry, and remember all the little moments of the day:

Next up, I get to show off some more of Jamie’s magic with a sampling of our engagement pictures!

What did you look for in a photographer? Was it an easy or difficult decision for you and your future spouse?

Beautiful! We chose our photographer because she was cheap. Heh. She’s a friend of our maid of honor, and has photographed a few weddings. We wouldn’t have booked her if we didn’t love her style, though - very candid, photojournalistic, not a lot of posed shots. She did our e-shoot which we loved, so we’re psyched for the wedding!

I think your photographer looks great. I, too, was very concerned about the photographer for our wedding. I wanted dreamy looking pictures that were not too overprocessed. Luckily I found the most amazing photographer who was not too far outside my budget!!

I think your wedding day is the only occasion you’re allowed to be vain and not called that way, it’s a mega special day and you want to remember it the best way possible, and looking like a movie star it’s definitely the best way possible. Those pictures are beautiful, l love spontaneous pictures cause it makes it feel real.

Great choice! I love that she uses natural lighting, instead of adding it. Can’t wait to see the e-pics!

I went with my gut like I usually do. Everytime Mr. Kettle or Momma Kettle push me to look at another option, we all end up agreeing my first love was the right choice! I can’t wait to see your epics.

Hello, Mrs. Pony. Hope u have a good day~:P
The wedding photos are awesome. That kiss after announcing the sweet pair became wife and hubby was very romantic against black and white color. Eye contact shows the bride’s kind heart and blissful feeling. Really remarkable~
