About Mrs. High Wire

We are licensed to wed!

Oh Yeah, It’s Getting Real (and Legal) : wedding dallas license 6103456 6103456

We took a seamless stroll over to the Dallas county courthouse today on our lunch break and picked up our marriage license.

All we needed was $71 cash and our driver’s licenses. We filled out a little form on the computer, lifted up our right hand and swore that we weren’t related (yeehaw) or currently married to each other or anyone else. Bing, bang, boom, here’s your marriage license. It is good for 30 days however there’s a 72 hour waiting period starting today.

The courthouse we went to had very clear signs directing us where to go, and we only had to wait behind one other couple. In a sea of complicated wedding tasks and errands, I am so thankful that this process went over as smoothly as it did. In the final weeks of wedding planning, that is an absolutely wonderful occurrence.

How was your experience when getting your marriage license?

GEEZ LOUISE! $71???

It only cost us $18 in Indiana…. I mean, I know our cost of living is lower, but THAT MUCH lower?

I guess maybe the higher marriage license costs are supposed to deter people from quicky marriages?

It’s $115 in MN, unless you have a signed form saying you’ve had marriage counseling… Then it’s $40!

Grats on getting your official docs!

In Dallas you get a $60 discount if you take a marital preparedness course for 8 hours (which often costs around $75, so it’s a wash). Glad to hear it went smoothly, as I’m heading to the courthouse to get mine next week! I filled out our info online already, so hopefully it may go even faster!

In PA it depends on the county - the counties near us are with $40 or $75.

Yeah on the low end here in Maryland– only $35 here too. I think Mrs. Lox may have already talked about it.

Ours was good for 6 months (I think), and only had a 24 hr waiting period.

We had free pre-marriage counseling from my church pastor. No discount though, haha. ah well.

Um, mine is going to be $140 in Toronto! It’s funny that it just sounded normal to me, before seeing what you’re all paying. Argh. Sometimes living in one of the most expensive cities in the world really doesn’t seem worth it!

WOW! I’m getting married at the end of the month so was looking in to the details too. Here, in Oklahoma, it’s only $50-unless you have a signed document that you’ve had premarital counseling then it’s a mere $5!! Win!

Yep. In Texas, each county has its own license. Some people go to the county that has the prettiest ones since they’re good state wide. We took the marriage prep course from our officiant for free and we only had to pay $13. Plus then there’s no waiting period (which is helpful if you don’t have time to go get the license).
