Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

As with most of my wedding decisions, I went back and forth about what I wanted to do with my nails for the wedding day. I know a lot of people go with french manicures for the big day, and those can be really nice.

But I immediately nixed this as an option. I had a bad run-in with fake nails in high school (let’s just say it involved long nails and trying to get a contact lens out of my eye–not a good combination), and I’ve been too scared to try them again.

I knew I didn’t want anything too colorful on my nails, even though my all-time favorite nail polish color is Revlon’s Midnight Affair.

As much as I love this color, I think navy blue is a little too out there for my wedding day. I decided a shade of pink would be much more fitting, but instead of combing through my own modest nail polish collection, I decided to go out and start looking for the perfect color.

First I tried Adore-A-Ball from Essie:

I really like this color, but it came out pretty light on my nails. It looks almost like a clear polish with just a hint of pink. I decided I needed more than a hint, so I went searching again.

Next I tried Mademoiselle, also by Essie:

I know Adore-A-Ball and Mademoiselle look almost exactly the same, but trust me, they are a little different (I swear!). Mademoiselle is definitely more pink and vibrant, and it is much closer to what I was looking for. But it still fell a little flat for me.

I went back to the Essie collection and looked for that perfect pink color. But everything they had that was more pink was just too pink. I wanted something soft and delicate, but still luscious. I couldn’t seem to find it, though. I thought I’d just have to settle for a so-so color.

But then I went back to my own nail polish collection and rediscovered my all-time favorite pink color, A Touch of Mauve:

This color is perfect. It’s not too pink but not too light or watered down. In most lights, it looks pretty nude and subtle. But it makes my nails look clean and fresh and adds that splash of color I am looking for. I love it.

What are you doing with your nails on your wedding day? Are any of you going the color route, like me? Or are you brave enough for french tips?

I think that’s a gorgeous choice! I got gels on my natural nails in a light light shimmery pink and loved them! They stayed on all through the honeymoon too without growing out.

I LOVE the pink you chose! So classy and sweet! It’s going to be perfect! Use Orly Nail Polish Bonder to make it last an extra long time :)

For my nails on the big day, I did the glue-on Kiss brand nails! Since I’m a court reporter, I have to keep my nails short, so I got the extra petite kind. They lasted well through the honeymoon and came off with minimal damage right before getting back to work!

my super-fashionable friend keeps telling me that french is “out of style,” but I really love it and think it goes with everything! I can’t decide. I’ve been wearing more solid shades lately. I think for my wedding I will go either french or a very neutral color–light pinkish. Still can’t decide! And, I LOVE essie!! Just picked up French Affair and can’t get enough.

I haven’t decided what to do with my nails for the wedding. I know I won’t be getting fake nails, but normal nail polish generally chips off my nails within 24 hours or less (it’s ridiculous). Mademoiselle looks super cute though… Grats on picking a color!

You picked the perfect color!! That is exactly what I want. I like short nails with a solid color. I’m not a fan of the french tip. It will look so feminine and pretty!

Try Shellac or Gelish. It’s a gel nail polish that you can soak off. They are much better for your nails than acrylic and look great. And, they last 2-3 weeks.

I just got married in July and had Shellac on my nails constantly the 3-4 months before to grow them out. I had the french manicure for my wedding day. Now, my husband requests it because he loved how nice they looked.

I used OPI’s “It’s a Girl” for my fingers which was a light, pretty pink and OPI’s “Hopelessly in Love” on my toes, which was nude… because I thought it looked pretty and I liked the name for wedding polish. :)

Cute final choice!

FYI, check out the Essie website. It gives a brief description of the polish. For instance, Adore-a-Ball is described as “a sheer soft pink, perfect for a french manicure.”

I went with my signature “Lincoln Park After Dark” the almost-black plum is my signature color and though I toyed with doing a classic pale pink or nude, it wasn’t really me. I wanted to look back on my photos and see the elements that were truly my style as I was when I got married.

‘A Touch of Mauve’ is a really pretty color, it’s the only polish besides clear that my mother has ever worn.

You know that not all french manicures mean fake nails, right? I have a real hate for fake nails, but got a beautiful french manicure for my wedding. Certainly not trendy, but I think very classic! :)

I got a french manicure (not acrylic, natural nails) for my wedding. I recently got a shellac manicure and it was amazing. No chips for two weeks. I swear by it now for important events.

Ugh…I still haven’t decided. My nails are always a short mess from climbing. I normally wear ‘out there’ colors so I should probably get to thinkin’ soon.

that’s a great color. i usually like something super bold or almost natural, so the color you chose is right up my alley. my FI doesn’t like color and likes the nail to be all opaque (he’s a hands guy). he and i are in love with sally hansen’s “pink slip.” it’s been all i use for nearly a year and i think i’ll stick with it for the big day, as well!

Ironically I have this color and every time I wear it I get compliments. I always think it’s a random thing to notice.. toe/nail color.. and don’t typically have people mention it… but ALWAYS with this color. I love it:) Great choice!

You can do french tips on natural nails! They don’t have to be fake just because they have a white tip :)

Just like you, I cannot do fake nails. Gel nails, tips, whatever you wanna call them. I found a way better alternative! It’s a manicure called “Gelish manicure” that goes on just like a nail polish on top of your natural nail and is set under the light like regular gel nails. There are no fake pieces involved in a gelish manicure and they last for weeks and weeks! The first one I ever got lasted 7 weeks and the only reason I had to take it off was because it was growing out. It was amazing. I’ve had it done 3 times total. It comes in many colour. You should check some salons and see if they offer it. It is definitely going to be my wedding day choice. :)

Essie Eternal Optimist! I saw a pic of a bride with mauve pink nails, and it was so different from the usual pale-pink… then I realized I own Eternal Optimist, which is my perfect mauve color. I love yours!
