Dealing with the Itch

September 6th, 2011 @ 10:24 am by Mrs. Funnel Cake

At this point I was trolling dress sites again looking for any kind of dress that came with a jacket, bolero, shawl, you name it. It was sick. I was sick. I found that I kept coming back to San Patrick and Pronovias dresses over and over again…

….and my favourite. I actually hold my breath when I see this dress!

Why the fudge didn’t I just buy one of these dresses in the first place??

Kidding…Y’all know I love Sabelle and wouldn’t change her for the world. I just wish she came with as pretty as a jacket as those San Patrick gowns. Besides, it’s not like I was able to order San Patrick from outside the US in the first place.

I just want to look like this bride with her custom jacket!

I decided that I simply had to get a jacket made, so I headed over to Etsy and eBay and found myself between a few sellers.

1. Etsy seller maryandangelika who made Mrs. Lox’s gorgeous bolero:

2. Etsy seller Rohm, who seems like somewhat of a legend here on Weddingbee:

3. And the wild card, Ladylion Couture who I found in an eBay search, who juuust rebranded and opened a shop called IheartBride on Etsy:

I actually only contacted Ladylion and Rohm, and when I heard back from both of them it was clear that Ladylion understood my vision better. After all, I had sent them both dorky little inspiration boards filled with pictures of what I wanted. Rohm just wanted to sell me one of her pre-designed jackets, while Ladylion would design any kind of jacket based on what I asked for.

Now I had a jacket designer! Hooray!

Did you decide to commission anything special for your wedding day?

I love the illusion neckline and sleeved styles! This was common in vintage gowns; I’ve been stocking up dozens for the store’s opening–I honestly don’t think there’s a more flattering or ladylike style. It’s so classic and elegant.

San Patrick is Spanish so I would think that you could get it in Europe.

@Zusie: I should clarify that I could not get US prices in Switzerland. I would have been able to order a San Patrick gown to a bridal store here for literally 3X the price as the US. In my mind, it wasn’t really an option since I couldn’t place international orders with the US bridal sites and I couldn’t justify the exorbitant Swiss prices. ;-)

I love the Pronovias dress it is simply gorgeous. I had my dress custom made. I had tried on monique lhuillier ’scarlet’ and I was in love and in tears, but couldn’t afford her price tag. So I found a local designer and get to customize the dress to what I want for 1/3 of the price tag.

I love Pronovias and St. Patricks, they’re definitely my favorite, but I don’t think I’ll be able to afford one of their dresses.
@Miss Funnel Cake: I agree, it’s a pain trying to buy something outside your country cause even if you get the US price, shipping and handling costs almost as much as the dress itself!
