Long Engagement 101

September 7th, 2011 @ 11:51 am by Miss Petit Four

“Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That’s relativity.” - Albert Einstein

As of today, Mr. PF and I are 582 days into a 758-day engagement (holy crap). Looking back on it, it doesn’t feel that long ago that we got engaged. We have been engaged since February 13, 2010. We opted for a long engagement for several reasons.

  1. We wanted to save money for our big day.
  2. We knew we wanted a destination wedding and we wanted to give people enough time to save up money if they wanted to go.
  3. My best friend got married last year, and I was busy helping her with her wedding.
  4. We were happy with the way things were going. We didn’t see any urgency to get married right away.

Now that we are getting closer, within the six-month mark, I feel like things are finally coming together. I can finally tell people I am getting married “March 2012,” and I don’t get a crazy wonky-eyed look in response. Imagine telling someone that in February 2010? Um, yeah…wonky eyes commence.

A big part of me wishes we hadn’t waited so long. I am so ready to be his wife, and he is ready to be my husband. In the end, I know that these next six months will probably go faster than we want them to. I still have a ton of DIY projects I need to finish (I mean start) and a whole lot more planning to do.

I guess the point of this post is that I am finally getting into the “fun” part of wedding planning, and I am just gonna sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. It’s not worth the headache to get upset about silly things that really don’t matter. We are going to be husband and wife, and the day will be perfect no matter what!

I’m having a long engagement. We got engaged in Sept of 2010 and we aren’t getting married until June of 2012. So it’s ALMOST 2 years. I honestly didn’t want to plan a wedding in a short amount of time. I wanted a long engagement because I wanted to enjoy being engaged! You only do it once.

We had a long engagement too… and it was really irritating to say October OF TWO THOUSAND ELEVEN to people all of the time. Once October 2010 rolled around I was a very happy girl! Now I seriously think I am going to miss being engaged and wedding planning… I already have activities planned for after we get married, like hosting my SIL’s shower, so that I have something else to obsess over.

We got engaged July 2010 and we’ll be getting married August 2012! Sometimes the wait stinks, but I feel like this is one of the most special times of our lives- I like that we can make it last!

Yup, 17 month engagement for us and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I feel ya with finally being able to plan the “fun” stuff now. I will say that time has flown by though. I’ve enjoyed being able to work on things at my leisure and not having to be rushed. I think it has given us the opportunity to enjoy it more.

I know exactly what you mean on the wonky eye! Our engagement was 755 days. Enjoy these last couple of months!

22 month engagement. I now have 10 months left and I agree about not getting odd looks anymore from people when I tell them the date. Although part of me wishes these next 10 months would fly by so I can call him my husband… It’s funny how I look back and wonder where this past year went….

I`ve been engaged since Dic. 2010 and wedding is Oct. 2011.

We`ve had time enough to get the house ready, detailed wedding planning and saving.

Being engeged is something you need to enjoy as a couple. Is just part of the process. I think a year is long enough to do it.

Now that I am a month away from my wedding, i am a little anxious but very happy of all the choices we`ve made during this time.

Happy planning girls!

Ditto! Our engagement (in the end) will be 687 days. I’m ready now to be married to him, and him to me, but we’re saving money and not currently living in the same city. And you get such funny looks when you say December of two thousand twelve. (like @Arr6 said!) So I’m feeling you all! :-)

We had a 19 month engagement. And I got the looks from people too. But as you know, it flies by! By the time our wedding rolled around, I wished I had another month to plan.

We’ll be engaged about 18 months at the time of the wedding. Even though it has felt like a long time, I’ve really appreciated the extra time in the last few months :)

We have a 21 month engagement. This was a compromise…he wanted to wait another year longer and I wanted it a year earlier. I love that we can DIY a lot of stuff though!

It looks like i might have the longest engagement. We got enagaged in Feb 2010 and we were supposed to get married Sept 10 2011 but my fiance was in a car accident so we had to postpone the wedding till June 2012. I wish we had gotten married way sooner because the waiting part sucks lol

Our engagment will be 21 months so roughly 650 days. I know how you feel. We chose to wait until I graduated from college and the timing turned out to be perfect since I landed an internship that will end 2 weeks before we get married. I’ve accomplished a lot of planning but I’m still in serious wait mode. I am so excited to be down to one year but I know how awesome it is going to be to be so much closer too! School will definitely keep me busy though.

We got engaged September 5, 2009 and just got married this August 20th. That’s about two weeks shy of a two year engagement! I got SO tired of hearing “So when are you guys going to get married already?”
