Do it! Like everyone else on the planet, Bossyboots and I had specific plans for our engagement photos, namely a Save the Date. We’re getting married in March 2012… we’re kind of behind the 8-ball right now. Since our wedding is a destination adventure for most of our guests, we sent out an email back in May to most of our peeps so that at least they knew the date and location. So really, we’re not behind so much as extra reminder-y about our wedding.
I will say I’m a big fan of the email pre-STD. People like to plan ahead, and it always works better when you can give them as much notice as possible! We spread the word via email and word-of-mouth as soon as we had a date, so that helped me not have a panic attack about waiting until the six-month mark to send out STDs. And I am not making sexually transmitted diseases jokes because you can do that on your own—so go nuts! (Ha!)
From our photos, two were at our Tippy McTiptop:

I really loved this third one too, but in the end we nixed it:

We didn’t include smoochy photos on our STD shortlist because we didn’t want any of our guests barfing on the double-weight, uncoated card stock.
I thought about creating our own STDs in Photoshop but… I’ve been working on not going crazy with my imagination and creating sky high piles of work for myself, so… I made the smart choice this time and decided to buy that sh*t.
After a bit of internet surfing (ok, 15 minutes) we decided that Wedding Paper Divas fit the bill. See a few of our runner-up choices (that didn’t quite make the cut)!

We even considered this non-photo STD because it reminded me of Texas Hold ’Em and was just so dang cute. (If you can’t tell, I’m one of those people for whom stores create end-cap displays.)

And then…. AND THEN (!) we found the right STD for us. Here’s the grand prize winner:

We chose this design because it was lighthearted and fun—perfect! The ordering process really couldn’t have been easier. We were set to go in the time it took to drink a single soda.
As far as price, we had set a budget of $100 for 100 cards. The bottom line? $116.25 until (!) I located a coupon for $10 off, putting us at $106.25. I will take it!
Where did you purchase your save the dates?
