Save Our Date

September 8th, 2011 @ 9:18 am by Miss Snapdragon

Do it! Like everyone else on the planet, Bossyboots and I had specific plans for our engagement photos, namely a Save the Date. We’re getting married in March 2012… we’re kind of behind the 8-ball right now. Since our wedding is a destination adventure for most of our guests, we sent out an email back in May to most of our peeps so that at least they knew the date and location. So really, we’re not behind so much as extra reminder-y about our wedding. :)

I will say I’m a big fan of the email pre-STD. People like to plan ahead, and it always works better when you can give them as much notice as possible! We spread the word via email and word-of-mouth as soon as we had a date, so that helped me not have a panic attack about waiting until the six-month mark to send out STDs. And I am not making sexually transmitted diseases jokes because you can do that on your own—so go nuts! (Ha!)

From our photos, two were at our Tippy McTiptop:

I really loved this third one too, but in the end we nixed it:

Save Our Date : wedding dallas save the date 32 3

We didn’t include smoochy photos on our STD shortlist because we didn’t want any of our guests barfing on the double-weight, uncoated card stock.

I thought about creating our own STDs in Photoshop but… I’ve been working on not going crazy with my imagination and creating sky high piles of work for myself, so… I made the smart choice this time and decided to buy that sh*t.

After a bit of internet surfing (ok, 15 minutes) we decided that Wedding Paper Divas fit the bill. See a few of our runner-up choices (that didn’t quite make the cut)!

We even considered this non-photo STD because it reminded me of Texas Hold ’Em and was just so dang cute. (If you can’t tell, I’m one of those people for whom stores create end-cap displays.)

And then…. AND THEN (!) we found the right STD for us. Here’s the grand prize winner:

Save Our Date : wedding dallas save the date 71 7

We chose this design because it was lighthearted and fun—perfect! The ordering process really couldn’t have been easier. We were set to go in the time it took to drink a single soda.

As far as price, we had set a budget of $100 for 100 cards. The bottom line? $116.25 until (!) I located a coupon for $10 off, putting us at $106.25. I will take it!

Where did you purchase your save the dates?

We will be using weddingpaperdivas.com for our STD’s too! I am a March 31, 2012 bride and we still haven’t done our engagement pics. They are scheduled for Sept. 17 and my photographer promised she’d give me a one week turnaround. Worst case scenario is that our STD’s won’t go out until the first week of October. But, it’s really just a fun formality at this point. Everybody knows the date already, so I’m not worried about it.

I got ours from MagnetStreet.com. Very easy to use. Came out awesome. Rave reviews all around. For 150, I paid $149. I also had a coupon code (I don’t shop online without one…::smile::).

Yay! It’s sooo good to see your beautiful face ’round here again =)
Also a huge fan of wedding paper divas and proud of you for “buying that sh*t.” I used them for our thank you notes and had 20/20 hindsight of “why the crap didn’t I use them earlier…?”

Very cute and I love the final choice!

I had designed a couple on shutterfly and was very pleased with them until I won free save the dates from a bridal show so I got to work with a photography company and designer to get exactly what we wanted.

I love those train photos! We are using Magnet Street and doing a magnet STD. Most of the people coming to our wedding have kids and with kids, the need to hang stuff so why not help ‘em out with a magnet of our pretty faces. I am starting to sweat a little as the sun is starting to set earlier here in the Upper Midwest and I really want some outdoor shots, but schedules are crazy with us and the photographer. Oh well, it will work out!

Vista print! And had I ordered them the first time I put them together, the whole thing for 150 would have cost $26 included shipping, but not postage.
