We woke up bright and early to drive about two and a half hours north to Talkeetna, Alaska. Talkeetna is known as being the starting point for most people who want to climb Mount McKinley. It’s also allegedly the inspiration for the fictional town of Cicely from the TV show Northern Exposure. It’s an adorably quaint little town with a ton of bars. The town jokingly refers to itself as “a small drinking village with a climbing problem.”

It was raining pretty hard and we couldn’t check into our room for a few hours, so we killed some time at the little town museum.

And then we had some beers at one of the many bars.

Afterwards, the rain slowed down to a drizzle, so we checked out how adorable the town was.

We checked into our hotel, had dinner, and went to bed fairly early, because we had a big adventure for the next day…

A flightseeing tour with glacier landing! We went to K2 aviation for a trip around the Alaska Range and a trip to a real-live glacier.

I got to sit in the co-pilot seat!

The views were incredible.

We got a great view of Mt. McKinley.

And then we landed on a Eldridge Glacier, which was just amazing.

It was an incredible adventure, and if you ever have the chance to do it, I highly recommend it!

That night, we went bar hopping, and the next morning, we were ready to leave Talkeetna.
