After Seward, and Anchorage, and Talkeetna, we drove up to a charming little B&B in Healy, AK, about twenty minutes from the entrance to Denali National Park. After checking into our room, we went back to the park and took a hike. Neither Mr. S nor I are particularly outdoorsy or athletic, so we chose a hike on the “moderate” scale.
It made for views like this:

And we saw a real beaver dam! I’ve never seen one in person before, and I couldn’t believe how big it was. We didn’t see any beavers, though.
After a fantastic dinner at the 49th State Brewery in Healy (my favorite restaurant in all of Alaska), we went to bed early and woke up early for our long-ass bus tour of the park. They have tours that are 11-12 hours long, but we couldn’t fathom sitting on a bus for that long, so we took the 8 hour tour, which goes 66 miles into the park.
We went through two major types of ecosystem. In the boreal forest, AKA taiga, we saw moose.
And in the tundra, we saw grizzlies!
I’ve never been anywhere so breathtakingly beautiful.
The 8 hours literally flew by, and except for two slightly numb butts, we didn’t at all feel like we spent 8 hours on a bus.
And that’s really it—the next day, we drove five hours back to Anchorage and took the red eye home.
It was such an incredible trip—if you ever have the opportunity to go to Alaska, you should definitely go.
Coming up next: I say goodbye (sniff).
