Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich's Picture
Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJ Age and Occupation: 28, School Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate Athletics Engagement Date: March 27, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Congress Hall Hotel About Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
About Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

State of My Union

September 9th, 2011 @ 8:44 am by Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Since Mr. Prez gave a big speech last night about the state of affairs, I figure it is time to reassess mine.  With less than a month to go some things are getting done, some are being replaced and some are being plain thrown out!

Lets start with what is no longer making the cut for the Cucumber Sandwich wedding.

1. Photo booth

We will not be having a photo booth at our wedding. Originally I really, really wanted one but as time is growing short and my DIY list is getting longer this project did not make the cut. I could have delegated it to Mr. Cuke Sammie but I am slowly coming around to not having one at the wedding. I have convinced myself that it will take away from our raging dance floor. I have no idea if this is true but it is what I tell myself late at night.

2. Day of Coordinator

This is a post for another time but I am subscribing to the philosophy that ’too many cooks spoil the broth’.

3. Victorian Brunch

I think I promised this in my introductory post but it is not going to happen. We are probably going to have some people over to Mr. CukeSammie’s family house for some scrambled eggs but nothing elaborate. There are only so many hours in the day!

4. Doily Welcome Bags

I would have loved to be able to make these bags for our welcome bags. I might still make one after the wedding for me :) Since everyone is coming in from out of town that would be a lot of bags. Also most people are staying together with multiple families in one rental property so bag distribution might be kind of complicated.

Fortunately MamaCS had an inspiring idea. We are going to get a large tub of kettle corn for each house and call it a day! Maybe tie some ribbon around the bucket and leave a note. Who wouldn’t want to come home to this:

Our ’additions’ list is much, much shorter.

1. Uplighting!

In 6 degrees of separation, I have acquired Mrs. Seashell’s uplighting. I am very excited to see how these lights turn out in the venue.

2. Videographer

We have decided to spring for the WedIt wedding video. Wedit is a service that sends you 5 flip cameras to record whatever you want. After you send the cameras back they will create a wedding video and highlight reel from your footage. We thought about buying flip cameras to record the ceremony and other important moments but this really seems like the best option. I would have had no idea how to piece together the footage together and now someone will do it for me! We get 5 cameras so we can capture the day from all kinds of angles. Here is an adorable example of their work:

And there you have it. The Cucumber Sandwich State of the Union.

Which projects have you had to let go? Did you add anything approaching the wedding?

I have had Mrs. Seashell’s uplighting post saved since I first saw it. I’m pretty sure we’ll be ordering those bad boys too!

I love love love the wedit idea! This is the first time I’ve heard of it! (yet another reason I’m thrilled that I stumbled upon weddingbee!!) I think we are nixing the photobooth as well. Cost and space just became too complicated :( I do want to do OOT bags, but I’m dragging my feet because I’m afraid the cost will be too much :/

Do you plan to sell the uplighting afterwards? If so, I want them! :)

@thefuturemrs.o if you buy them from the above, would you consider selling them to me when you are through with them? My date is not until sept. 2012
:)
Thanks!

i was just at a wedding this past weekend and they had a photobooth…i want to say the first half of dancing no one was on the floor because they were all huddled in/around the photobooth. i felt bad for them. and then the party didn’t seem to really get started until the props from the photobooth made it out to the dance floor. i’m not saying this is the only reason why the dance floor was empty in the beginning, but i think it was a big factor. after seeing that i’m glad hubs nixed the idea of having one. but that doesn’t mean it’s like that at all weddings.

Can I chime in on your decision to nix the Day of Coordinator? I certainly don’t know the state of your finances, but I highly recommend that you reconsider. When I helped my daughter plan her wedding, I thought the idea of a DOC was an expense I could ill-afford. Another vendor talked me into it, and I’ll tell you that it was the BEST money I spent. I was able to relax and have fun, no one in the family had to “work” the wedding, and everything went as smooth as silk. Just my two cents…

I haven’t let go of anything yet…. Here’s hoping I don’t have too. I’m excited for your wedding video. I really liked that idea of doing the flip cameras, but the quotes I found were just too much for what we wanted to spend.

Little late to the dance but thank you for sharing! I have never heard of Wedit video and we’re going to look into it.

I’m a Congress Hall bride too, also in October 2011! So fun, just stumbled upon this.

I thought a coordinator came in the package for all weddings there! I seriously see it as saving my life on the day of, I don’t want to have to worry about meeting all our vendors.

Good luck with your last few weeks :)

@thefuturemrs.o:I sent you a pm
@sarah: that is good to know. I am glad other people are nixing it too.
@alaina: Yay for Congress Hall bride! A coordinator does and Daniella is fantastic. I was just debating the difference with a planner vs wedding coordinator.

@Crown: Thanks for the advice! We are still thinking about it but our venue has a fantastic, can’t-sing-her-praises-enough wedding coordinator so I think she may have to suffice.
