Pre-Shower Goodies

September 12th, 2011 @ 8:46 am by Mrs. Ticket

The day before “Bridal Shower Socal,” I asked Mama Ticket if she and Sister/MOH Ticket had favors for the guests. She sounded puzzled and said no. I told her I would take care of it. She thought me a little odd, but agreed and went on her way. Later that day she called me back to inquire more about these favors—suddenly it had occured to her that recent showers she had been to had favors as well! She was very concerned over the fact that she had forgotten this and didn’t want me spending too much on my own shower. So Daddy Ticket kindly offered to pay for the goodies, and I put them together.

After trips to Dollar Tree to buy ribbon and little cello bags, Target (unsuccessful mission to find bags), Party City (Mission “Find Bags” = success!), and Michaels for a “Thank You” stamp, I was ready to acquire the goodies. I headed to Sam’s Club and picked up giant bags of M&Ms and Skittles, as well as a bucket of Ring Pops, then went home and set to work.

I had hoped to find bags that matched the theme of the shower (”Hawaii for our Honeymoon”—isn’t Sister/MOH Ticket thoughtful?) but, alas, no luck. So I decided to jazz up our bags a little. I soon found out that just stamping the bags wasn’t an option since the ink smudged hardcore…like you touched it and you just walked away with a blank bag and a handful of ink. So I decided to try embossing (OK, I’m secretly addicted to embossing now), and—yay!—it worked! No more smudge. Shockingly, this little project took me less than an hour, and I was quite pleased with the result. Our guests each got a little bundle of yumminess for the road as a thank you for attending the shower.

Overall Cost of Goodies:

  • Cello bags - $2
  • Ribbon - $3
  • Bags - $5.98
  • M&Ms - $8.79
  • Skittles - $6.28
  • Ring Pops - $10.54

The total came to $36.59, or roughly $1.53 per bag. Each bag was filled with approximately two ounces of M&Ms, two ounces of Skittles, and a Ring Pop. The leftover Ring Pops were stuffed in additional bags for kids. I’m cheating and not counting the cost of the stamp (four dollars), because we fully intend to use this for other wedding projects as well. While it may not have been the cheapest project, I’m still quite pleased with how quickly and easily it came together for such a last-minute idea.

Oh my goodness! I feel so bad now. We had a shower on Saturday and I totally didn’t have favors. I brought the hostess a gift, but that was all. I’m so going to do this for the next one.

That’s a simple but still cool idea. What can be better than getting candy!

I love the idea of getting the candy from Sam’s Club. I bet more people would have candy bars at their weddings if they have small enough guest lists.
