Well, I had my hair trial today. It went well and didn’t take long, so I’m pretty happy with the overall experience. I’m not really a hair and makeup person. I think they’re fun to play with, but I’m lucky if I even brush my hair before I leave the house most days, let alone style it. You know how there are people who get their hair fixed and nails done every week? I’m more of a twice a year person. So, my knowledge about this kind of stuff is pretty limited.
I decided to get my hair done at the Beauty Bar because I got my hair cut there in January and enjoyed it. I decided to get my hair cut there in January because it is near my house. So, you can tell I’m not the pickiest lady to begin with. I found some inspiration pictures this week, but didn’t bring them with me because I’m smart like that. I also forgot to bring the headband and birdcage veil I’ve been thinking about wearing. Super smarts here!
I went to my appointment and browsed through a bridal hair magazine as I waited. A few minutes later I met the woman who will do my hair for my wedding. Kind of crazy to think of, isn’t it? Anyway, she asked what I wanted and I explained that I wanted to wear it down with big loose curls.
She asked intelligent questions about volume and parts and I let her know I didn’t know anything about what she was talking about and I just wanted her to use her best judgment. She said ok and we got going. We made some small talk but then I kind of tuned out and started watching what she was doing to my hair. As someone not gifted in the art of hair, it always amazes me when a stylist takes your hair from blah to OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING to excellent. I think that’s one of the reasons I’m terrible with hair- I always freak out and doubt myself during the OMG WHAT ARE YOU DOING phase.
Anyway, after tons of hair spray, it was done. At first I wasn’t too sure. I was concerned. I thought it was too much. But then I went home, played with it, and started really liking it. It was what I wanted and it was pretty.

I thought I would like it better with the veil, so I threw it in my hair to take a look.
(This angled photo is not an attempt to be artsy, just a testament to my poor mirror picture taking skills.) Cute with the veil- and how about a test run of that headband?

I like it! I like it! And when Mr. Cannon saw it later (after it started to fall and Cherry Bomb got her sticky little hands on it) he still said he liked it, so I think this hair trial can be deemed a success!
Did anyone else half-ass their hair trial and still find success? And does anyone else always feel WAY out of their league when they get their hair done? I always feel like everyone in the salon sighs and shakes their head when they see my sad ponytail and make-up-less face walk through the door. “Poor girl,” I imagine they’re thinking. “She actually goes in public like that.” Of course, they’re probably really thinking, “I sure love sandwiches. When is lunch?” But that doesn’t stop me from feeling like a failure at womanhood.
