Ms. Ferris Wheel's Picture
Ms. Ferris Wheel, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, Psychologist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Psychologist Engagement Date: May 23 and 28, 2010 (one for each of us!) Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Parc55 Hotel (city lights ceremony, ballroom reception) About Me: Born in the Southeast, educated in the Northeast, and over-educated on the West Coast, I finally earned my city-girl credentials and have put down roots in gorgeous San Francisco. I’m a raging perfectionist with a lightning quick wit and a terrible sense of both time and direction. Our wedding task list is endlessly growing because of my predilection to think that DIY projects I can make = DIY projects I should make (so not true!). I always go to bed wishing there were more hours in the day to enjoy all the things I adore, whether that be hobbies, friends, my career, our two dogs, or Mr. Ferris Wheel. Ours is a story of a non-traditional couple living an oddly traditional life planning a not-so-traditional wedding in this city we adore. Together we are bustin’ out all of our best skills (and some of our worst ones) to plan a laid-back-chic DIY-craftastic love-alicious affair!
About Ms. Ferris Wheel

Dah Dum t’Dumm, Dah Dum t’Dumm

September 15th, 2011 @ 12:22 pm by Ms. Ferris Wheel

You can tell that’s the bridal march, right? ;)

I heard a lot of the dah dum t’dumms growing up because my mom was (and still is) our church organist and she played at many of the congregants’ weddings. When I went through my teenage phase of “I wanna be completely different from everyone in the whole wide world,” I decided I wouldn’t be a person who came down the aisle to the bridal march if/when I ever got married, and I never changed my mind about that. But in all the years since then, I also haven’t been that interested in getting married in general, so I’ve given precious little thought to any other specific things that I did or didn’t want at my potential future wedding. Except this one thing….

Hive, I’m gonna just come right out and say it. This one thing is kind of a diva moment.

It is the ONLY princess-princessprincess wedding thing I’ve ever latched onto, dreamed about, and held close to my heart. And now that it’s closer to becoming a reality, I’m having to really own what a diva moment it actually is. So, I’m telling all of the internet about it and I’m trying to own it.

It all started with the movie Practical Magic, which I adore. Watching it in the theater, I vividly recall this one swell in the music that gave me chills, and in that moment I thought, “That would make an amazing bridal entrance.” I own the movie soundtrack, and I’m still caught breathless every time I hear it. (I suggest you start at about 1:08 to get the full effect, but *the moment* starts about 1:30.)

It’s princess, right? And totally diva-ish? I know. I know! Yet as much as those two words really don’t describe me, I just can’t imagine myself walking down the aisle to any other music. So I will do my best to conjure all of my inner diva confidence, absolutely rock out the moment, and just hope it lives up to all the emotional hype.

Like it or not, do you or your partner find that you’ll be embracing any diva moments at your wedding?

Oh, that is pretty! That would definitely make a great bridal entrance. I don’t know about diva moments… I guess spending money to get my eyebrows waxed, my gray hair dyed, and my nails, hair and makeup done - not to mention the dress - is a pretty big diva moment for me! Those things are not in my typical repertoire.

I LOVE that movie. My BFF and I were obsessed. I think it makes a great bridal entrance song. I imagine you standing at the back of the aisle and when the “moment” happens you start your way down.. sigh… love it

OMG! I love it! I totally had the vision at the “moment” of the door opening and the bride coming out.
I didn’t walk down the aisle to the bridal march. It was a very difficult and heated discussion with my mom and mother-in-law, but it was totally worth it!

@hisbahamamama: We’re going to start the song at the beginning, and in that first minute the kids and the groom will walk down. And then, ya know, the *moment* will happen. :-)

@Miss Ladyfingers: Ya know, you’re right. There’s SO much about this wedding process that doesn’t exist in my typical day-to-day life. Divas, all of us! ;-)

@Chery_L: There are two versions of this melody on the soundtrack, and each has different instrumentation. This one is actually called Practical Magic. The other is called Amas Veritas.

@NYCcaliBRIDE: That’s what I picture, too!

@Miss Porcupine: Agreed - the book was also great.

@okpharmbride: So glad that worked out for you! Way to stick to your guns. :-)

@TamJam: Yep, it does. See my above comment to Chery L for the whole rundown.

@Ocean: Ooh, yay! I totally wanna know if you decide to use it, k??

Love it! I don’t find it diva-ish at all. Almost makes me wish we’d had music for our ceremony… :)

I love it! It might be kinda tricky to ensure that the moment you are ready to walk will be 1:30… but I bet you can make it work, and it’ll be awesome. Just make sure you can hear the music from wherever you’re waiting so that you know the moment.
