Raise Your Glass - Drive

September 15th, 2011 @ 8:14 am by Mrs. Zebra

Our photographer Sara snapped a few more candid pictures of the wedding party before wrapping it up. The limo was due to arrive soon and we had captured many memories at my childhood home.

It was at this point in the day that I found myself sitting on a couch giving myself a congratulatory pat on the back. We were running ahead of schedule! Even my mother, who is notoriously late for everything, was ready to get the show on the road. I felt a little smug and even a bit impatient. What if our transportation didn’t arrive? Would I miss my own wedding? Oh yes, even a joyous occasion such as our wedding couldn’t quite squash the worrier in me. I tried to soak in completely a few of these moments to myself. I used them to recharge and reflect on the morning of my wedding day.

Luckily, the limo drove down our little street exactly on time. The drive to the church is always my favorite part of any wedding day I am lucky enough to be an intimate part of. The music is pumping, the drinks are flowing, and there is an air of excitement that you don’t normally get during any old ride. The children were bouncing in their seats from the excitement of riding in the limo. The drive to the church was one of my very favorite parts of the day too. I may not have any professional pictures of the moments spent in anticipation but I certainly recall them perfectly.

I may have let the excitement overpower me and drank a little too much during the 20 minute car ride. We were passing the champagne and Doctor. We were dancing to the upbeat music. I remember having to concentrate really hard in church to fully grasp the weight of our ceremony. I enjoyed myself but wish I would have taken it a wee bit easier on the old Doc. Ah, what can I say? We were celebrating!

As the car drove up to the church, the boys were hurrying to take cover after finishing their formal shots. Each of the boys, including Zeb, had their hands over their eyes. Everyone in the limo instructed me to do the same. I totally peeked though. They should have known better than to trust me. It was there, outside of the church, 20 minutes before our ceremony that I got a sneak peek of the sexy man I was about to marry. …and he was looking gooooooood.

We had a beautiful sunny day but I admit it was quite a bit colder in the city because of the wind whipping through the buildings. We had another few minutes to wait in the car still. I was happy to listen to some music, gather my thoughts, and watch our loved ones pile into the church to watch us get married.

There were definitely some squished baby fingers in that window but after a hug from their Papa, it was back to playing their leg air guitar and bribing them to walk down the aisle.

Soon though, all 250 of our loved ones were seated in their pews and it was finally, finally time to start.

your wedding makes me want my wedding RIGHT NOW. the pic of the guys covering their eyes is just adorable. i want to pinch all of their cheeks.

advice? i’m considering carpooling but the limo ride seems so fun. was it just you, your BMs, and the kids? did you use it when leaving with eveyone, too? (i guess that’d be a spoiler though. shucks!!) i always think about the bridal party’s spouses being stranded or something…

@Miss White Pearl: The limo is definitely a part of the budget where you can cut if you’d like something more elsewhere in your wedding. We wented the limo for 4 hours. It transported the boys from our hometown to Providence and then doubled back to pick us up and bring us to Providence. We did not ride in the limo after that but it was available for our parents and the children to take from the church to the reception (about 6 blocks.) Why yes… I do have a surprise in store for where we went. ;0)

Most of the spouses were either a part of the wedding party or carpooled together. That’s a normal part of being in a wedding though so if I were you I wouldn’t worry too much about the spouses.

@Fixin2BMrs.Awesome: Awww thanks!

@Coffee cup: Me too. It’s one of my favorites!
