Blast from the Past…

Blast from the Past... : wedding atlanta wedding dress Skunk skunk

Meet my mom and dad. This is them before they got married. And this is the picture that made me realize how much I look like my mom. My dad also has long wavy locks in this picture, and that’s just too rad not to share.

And a picture of the mister and me for comparison:

Blast from the Past... : wedding atlanta wedding dress Uschris I mentioned before that I plan on wearing my mom’s dress for the reception. After finally getting down to my parents’ house this weekend, I snagged some pictures and got to try on the dress again! Here is my mom in the dress.

I am planning on wearing the veil with my ceremony dress, which I will share pictures of later. I’m planning on getting the sleeves shortened just below the lace and the skirt shortened to just above the knee, as well as adding some colorful tights and my cowboy boots. I have a perfect image in my head, but I can’t really say for certain until I get it all put together.

My favorite part of the dress, though?

I haven’t had it cleaned, pressed, or altered yet, but I absolutely love it. Can you believe this baby has been packed away in a metal trash can for the past 30 years?!

All pictures are personal.

That’s amazing. My mom borrowed her dress from a friend for her wedding, and it went back to its original owner. Apparently this was the thing to do in the late 70s/early 80s? It also had CRAZY puffy sleeves, so woof to that. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

So wonderful! My mom’s dress didn’t hold up anywhere near this well. It is a mustard yellow color and no tailors or cleaners were willing to touch it b/c they were pretty sure it would fall apart if they tried to do any processes to it.

@Miss Porcupine: My mom borrowed her dress too. When I was younger I used to think it was a great idea, now I can´t imagine wearing a wedding dress just cause it´s available and not because you love it.

Miss S. I can´t wait to see how your dress turns out.

The back of that dress is gorgeous and my favorite part too. Do those buttons actually unbutton or does it hide a zipper?

@Miss Kettle: They actually do hide a zipper! There are hook and eyes that’ll be put together to hold the buttons down.

@Miss Porcupine: I just recently found out that my aunt actually wore this in 1983 as well!
