Let’s Talk About Hair, Baby

September 18th, 2011 @ 1:50 pm by Miss Warbler

Typically, I wear my hair in two down styles: straight and curly. I don’t think it suits me to wear it up, but occasionally when I’m running late or my hair is not cooperating, I’ll pull it up in a ponytail.

I wear my hair long and straight in the cooler months.

Long oval face, no good for updos

I switch up my ’do in the summer for a curly weave. Yup, I wear weaves.

So, I always assumed I would wear my hair down for my wedding as well. I may have even practiced with a few accessories.

But, a wedding is supposed to be the one day where you can fancy it up. A little voice in my head (hello, Mom) keeps saying “try something different.” Then I remembered that I rocked a half-up, half-down ’do for prom that I loved. Wanna see Miss Warbler back in high school? Let’s do the time warp!

Forget about the hair, check out my guns!

To be fair, that was more of a one-fourth-up, three-fourths-down ’do. But those photos inspired me to seek out similar hairstyles.

Carrie Underwood’s photo is definitely making its way onto my inspiration board. I love how her hair cascades across her forehead and the curls. But, I still have my safe options. I might have my hairstylist try a couple half-up, half-down styles so I can have a clear image. What do you think? Should I fancy it up or stay safe?

I think Carrie Underwood’s style would look great on you! You should remember the rule: yes, it’s your one day to be red carpet ready but you want to be comfortable in how you look. Maybe your wedding shouldn’t be the time to venture too far, like a whole up do’. I think you would like the half up, side bangs! Ashanti’s hair is a bit much and really big, the last one could look really good too, only in my opinion :)

I am contemplating the half up/ half down thing as well. My only thing is if half of it is down, I might as well put it all down. I dunno, I change my mind daily :D
Ps: damn! Those are some guns girl!

I think half up half down would be perfect for you. It is fancy, but seems to still feel comfortable for you. You don’t want to get too out of your element because you don’t want to look back at your pictures and think why did I do that? That’s not me. Ya know? I think Carrie Underwood’s ‘do would look awesome on you. By the way I died laughing on that last picture when you said ignore her boobs because this first thing I thought was, whoa! Scary boobs. Haha :)

I love Carrie’s hair in that photo! I think that would look great on you — looks like a side part really suits your face. :)

I was thinking a half up/half down hairstyle would be perfect for you! I love all of styles you posted! I guess it also depends on your dress and what you are wearing in your hair. But you’ll be gorgeous regardless!

I just have to add, I had (still have) an almost identical blue dress that you had on for prom?! My friends call it “THE blue dress!”. I hate to admit that I’ve even busted it out at parties! LOL

Lol “Ignore her boobs.” I too am contemplating the half up/half down. I think you should def. give it a go at the trial. I think it would look great, but if it turns out you feel more comfy with it down go for whatever you feel is most “you.”

Oooh, fancy it up. I think half-up half-down would look stunning on you! The up part could give you some extra volume and fanciness and the bottom part could show off your lovely curls! (cause I’m rooting for you to wear curls!) ;-)

The Carrie Underwood picture is GORGEOUS and I think it would look so good on you! Personally, I would want the top a teensy bit less poofy (as would my FI, he HATES poof), just something to think about.

I love her make-up in that pic too. I say copy the whole look and you are good to go!

Ignore her boobs cracked me up! I think half up/down will be really cool. I think it works really well for veils, too, depending on what kind you’re wearing. (If you’re wearing one.)

No playing safe! Take a chance, it’s just a hair trial. If it doesn’t work, you can then stick with what you know.

I love the 1/2 up 1/2 down look, I’m doing it :) I think it will give you the length you want but still show off your pretty face and be different enough from your day to day to be wedding special!
