Hello, Hive! Long time, no see! I have missed you all, but have had little wedding-related news since we got married. This weekend was our first anniversary, and it was pretty fantastic, if a little bit different than I anticipated.
Here we were, a whole year ago, getting married!
It was awesome. I mean, seriously: it was really, really incredible. Hopefully I will be back to tell you more about how it was incredible and how my perspective on it has changed in the past year, but for today, I want to tell you about our anniversary weekend.
Last year, we decided that instead of our dream honeymoon visit to Nova Scotia, we would take it easy and spend the week following our wedding relaxing in beautiful places.

Let’s just say that it was a highly successful honeymoon. Beautiful places, wonderful company, lots of reveling in the fact that we were married. It felt really amazing. At the time, we decided that we would take our Nova Scotia trip for our anniversary. Well, folks, it’s looking like it will be for our five year anniversary. This year, we only had a weekend, so we planned a relaxing weekend in New Hampshire.

As I continue mentioning how relaxing the weekend was “supposed” to be, are you picking up on the fact that maybe something a little less than relaxing happened? Well, it did. And it may not be relaxing, but it sure is cute:

Meet Faegan.

Despite the look on Daphne’s face (that says, “Yo, puppy! This is MY stick!”), they get along wonderfully. We met Faegan on Saturday morning, on our way to our supposed-to-be-relaxing anniversary weekend. She was calm, walked politely on a leash, learned “sit” in five minutes (literally), wanted to snuggle on our laps, and would run if we insisted on it but preferred to hang out quietly. She chased Daphne around the yard at the shelter. She didn’t bark when all the other dogs barked. She happily met children, adults, and didn’t respond fearfully to anything. She gazed up at Fancee as they walked together.
We spent all day Saturday trying to come up with names for her, and we couldn’t sleep Saturday night. It felt like Christmas when I was 7 years old; I couldn’t WAIT for it to be morning when we could TALK SOME MORE ABOUT OUR NEW PUPPY. So we cut our anniversary weekend short and picked her up on our way home.

Faegan is a rockstar. She and Daph played in the yard and then both passed out in their crates. She is already sitting at the verbal cue and we are working on “down.” She comes when called and wants to snuggle. The worst thing about her is (ready? It’s pretty bad.) that she wants to be on the couch, and we don’t allow pups on the furniture unless invited. I know, horrible. She is fine with the cats, and she is currently resting quietly in her crate. I think we are all a little bit in love.
I’m pretty proud of our starting our second year of marriage with a joint family decision full of excitement and joy.
So, uh, how was your weekend? What kinds of chaos have you been pleasantly surprised by in anniversary celebrations? Who has wonderful second-dog-stories to share?
