DIY Dump

September 20th, 2011 @ 1:50 pm by Mrs. Cannon

Hey guys, I’ve been working on some DIY stuff lately. None of it really needs enough explanation to warrant its own post, so here’s a conglomeration of recent wedding crafts:

First, string balls. Both Ms Ferris Wheel and Ms Honey have covered these pretty extensively, so I won’t bother. I used this tutorial and used some Sugar ’n Cream variegated yarns to make my colorful version:

And a bit more detail

I also made a scepter for our flower girl. Our church doesn’t allow thrown petals and honestly, I don’t think Cherry Bomb is old enough to really “get” throwing them anyway. I will actually be shocked if she makes it down the aisle on the big day. So, this was just a styrofoam ball and a wooden dowel from Michaels that I put together. I painted the dowel, attached some ribbon along the bottom and then hot-glued paper flowers to the ball. Ta-da!

The whole idea

The last thing I’ve been doing is spray painting bottles for our centerpieces. The inspiration is here, but it’s pretty self-explanatory. Clean the bottles, use Goo Gone or rubbing alcohol to get the sticky stuff off, rinse and dry, spray paint with frosted glass spray paint and then spray with any color you want. My sister helped me:

And made a bunch of different colored wine bottles

These were all pretty simple to accomplish and are pretty fun looking. Hopefully they will give our reception area an extra pop of color!

What projects have you been working on for your wedding?

ah love this! what awesome colors! I’m planning my wedding from out of state, so DYI is important and even more difficult. I’m a pretty crafty lady if i do say so myself, so my wedding is like a marathon of crafts! running down the aisle with ribbon and hot glue stations along the way… I’ll be making my BM’s gifts from vintage lace-into necklaces- and currently making little banner flags to be waved after we are married (ceremony site doesnt allow dropped anything either) hope everthing works out well cant wait to see the finished products!

Those multi-colored string balls are some of my favorite I’ve seen. I am excited to see how they come out with all the wedding decor.

Maybe I should ditch the idea of a flowers for myself and just carry a scepter… That rocks my socks.

Oh man, Cannon you are going to have such a colourful wedding! I can’t wait to see it! :)

I’ve been working on my cake topper, moo cards, mass programs, favour labels, table signs, church signs, a little secret project and a big secret project that I shameless haven’t blogged about yet. I have a couple more DIY ideas planned that may not pan out like thumbprint guest poster, photo guest book, and garter/bouquet tie. Could do all or none of them! I feel SO busy right now!!

Looks like you’ve been a busy bee ;) I’m jealous of your string balls! I too was a string ball bride until I tried doing them with punching balls and a couple popped & I decided to throw that idea out the window. Everything else looks equally amazing too! :)
