About Mrs. Skunk

Hair Dos Hair Dids and Hair Don’ts

September 20th, 2011 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. Skunk

I’ve had my hair just about every color under the sun. I feel most relaxed and think I look the healthiest when it’s a sandy blonde color. But I feel most spunky and rock star-ish when I’m rocking my deep purple-y color. I’ve been slowly trying to get as close to my natural color as possible for wallet purposes. Unfortunately, my natural color happens to be dishwater blonde.

Personal pictures

Told ya so! I’m currently probably closest to the top left picture. And I’ve got roots about an inch long. It’s bad. But I’m cheap and holding out to get my hair colored as close to the wedding as possible. I’m thinking I’m going to stick with the natural look for now. I’d love so much to get back to the top right picture, but it’s just so much upkeep and, on my student budget these days, low maintenance is the way for me. What do you think? Are you rockin’ your natural color on your big day?

I will have my hair my natural color… I haven’t dyed it since I was in college and that would always be the fun mid night runs to the 24 hr drugstore and buy a crazy shade of red and let my roommate in the dorms do the dye job for me… I gave up on that shortly after third year I think…

With the exception of a 8-10 wash out temporary dye I tried once in HS, I’ve always just stuck with my natural style.

I’m really fortunate to have a great shade of medium brown with lots of natural highlights to it, and I’ve just never felt the need to mess with it.

I was like you, Skunk! I went natural in the months leading up to the wedding (under the guise of giving my hair a break and saving a few bucks), but then dyed it back to my comfortable dark chocolate brown three weeks before the wedding. So glad I did because it looked amazing!

I have dirty blonde too..I always want to go natural and then I see it and I’m like ugh - be darker or lighter please. I say go with what you feel most comfortable with! You look great as a dark blonde though.

I also have dishwater blonde hair. But it never sees the light of day. Ever. I’m a highlighter. Getting it done tomorrow night actually! And amen for doing it close to the wedding….I’m doing it 3 days out so it is nice and fresh and bright.

I let mine go back to its normal color for the wedding, and I wanted to dye it SO badly the entire engagement! I love that I get to mess around with the color and cut way more now. :)

Ha ha, I’ve also been almost every color there is, with black being the exception. I’ve even had blue and purple highlights before! Of course that was in highschool…

Anyway, for the day of, I will most likely be rocking the blonde highlights with my natural dirty/mousey brown hair. For some reason the highlights make it look sooo much better :-) I may add some low lights in there so the amount of said natural (read ugly) color is very little.

My natural hair color is also a dishwater blond - and I’ve been highlighting for over a decade. But with saving for the wedding, I’m definitely letting my roots grow out a bit more instead of running to the salon! I can’t wait to return to regular touch-ups after the wedding! :)

I learned my freshman year of high school that my hair does not dye (or even highlight) well…. my normally medium to dark brown hair turned BRIGHT orange at the roots when we tried to highlight it. My mom started crying when we first saw it.

The only variation my hair has had since is from being out in the sun. It gets really dark in February and March and then gets lighter as the years goes on. August and September it gets really light (for me) from all the hours on the marching field.

My hair is a boring medium brown. I’ve gone slightly lighter to redder and/or darker. One day I did a dark reddish brown color. I came out of the bathroom and my fiance says “Wow, you look nice … I like the hair.” He has never, ever noticed or commented on a hair color before .. so that is the color it will be for the wedding :) Minus about 2 weeks to fade to a more natural color lol

Definitely not! With my hair locked, I dont have to worry about damage from color anymore. So I’m gonna be red or brown or copper or something for my wedding. :)

Ms. Skunk you and I are in the same boat! I think the purple would be AMAZING for a Feb. Wedding. Do you do your own Dye or Salon?

I love your hair the blonde color! As for me my hair won’t have time to grow out the colored part. I will probably just color it as close to my natural shade as possible.

My natural color is this kinda bright, fiery red.. while I don’t mind it, I definitely like a slightly darker, bolder color. I’m currently going through some hair “trials” to see what I should do on the big day!

Ah! I’ve found other people with boring blonde hair! “dishwater blonde” is a perfect way to describe mine. I’ve been dyeing mine since freshman year of high school (always some shade of blonde) because it’s just SO. DULL when it’s natural. Maybe I’ll just go with high lights sometime in life, but for now, I’m just dyeing it and making it shinier with a few highlights. :D

Just got my final cut and color prior to the big day! My color appts got out of sync and the grays were getting out of control, now I’m dark brown with reddish tint. Love the purple on you, though I totally get maintenance gets expensive. What color will you go with on your wedding day?

My natural colour is sort of a dark auburn, My regrowth is currently down to my ears, and then the rest is a lighter red shade. It looked terrible for a while, but now it looks like I dip dyed it which is pretty cool, a girl on the train asked me who my colourist was! Unfortunately I have found about 20 grey hairs in my regrowth! Argh! I’m only 22!!

After years of trying different highlighting schemes, I have finally decided to go darker, closer to my natural color. I have always loved Courteney Cox’s dark hair…so dark but with a warm rich overcast…that’s what I decided to go for…my FI really likes dark hair better, and I’ve been reaping the rewards ever since I came back from the salon!

I would love to go for a darker brown, but a cut and dye job in Switzerland costs over $300. I know I could buy my own dye, but the DIY selection here is limited to Loreal and top name brands and with my long hair I’d need two boxes… so that’s probably still at least $70 a pop. I just can’t justify it… so I’m timidly staying natural because I can’t fathom paying so much to dye my hair here. :P
