Finding Funnel Cake

September 21st, 2011 @ 5:48 am by Mrs. Funnel Cake

Like many a bee before me, I’ve been thinking about how to include my Weddingbee moniker on the wedding day. I always enjoy reading about bees including their namesake, so I wanted to carry on this tradition. If you had told me a year ago that I would be searching for funnel cake jewelry for my wedding day, I would have told you that you’re effing crazy. Who does that? Well, Miss Funnel Cake, duuuh.

What did I find on my Etsy run?

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry Il 570x059 il_570x059

($9 Necklace from LoveYourBling)

Bah. It looks like scrambled eggs. What else Etsy?!?

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry Il 570x060 il_570x060

Slightly cute, but still no strawberries. And ridiculously oversized for my hands.

($10 Ring by SouZouCreations)

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry Il 570x061 il_570x061

Again, these look like scrambled eggs! Big, fat eggs on my earlobes.

($10 Earrings by SouZouCreations)

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry Il 570x062 il_570x062

Omelet in your hair, anyone??

($4 Bobby Pins by lepetitebonbon)

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry Il 570x063 il_570x063

No offense to the creator, but this looks like moldy dog poo. Seriously.

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry Il 570x064 il_570x064

Hoorah for strawberries! But not quite funnel cake.

($7 Waffle Earrings by kcsweettreatsandmore)

So uhh… slim pickings folks. Buyable options were not good. And then I looked into custom Etsy. (Uh oh… you can hear the cha-ching of the price going up…)

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry Il 570x065 il_570x065

($30.90 Tart by PetitPlat)

PetitPlat’s work looked great. But all the prices started around $30 and would go up for custom work. I can’t imagine dropping $50 on a tiny funnel cake. I’m gonna DIY that shit!

These are the materials I ordered from WhysperFairy:

Due to late shipping, WhysperFairy threw in some extra supplies, so I would be receiving this in the mail:

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry 2027 2027

But she accidentally shipped everything in the mail to Columbus, so she sent another package to Zürich while my mother forwarded the package to me as well. So for a grand total of $3.20, I got these supplies:

That’s right, check out all these extra fruit sticks I got besides strawberry!

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry 4021 4021

I got started on my first attempt of trial and error.

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry 5022 5022

This funnel cake was too big for my taste, and with the powdered sugar on the strawberries it looked too much like pizza to me. So I tried again on a smaller scale and remembered to use some wires for the hooks.

This time, I’m really happy how the funnel cakes turned out! They are so small and cute.

Finding Funnel Cake : wedding accessories columbus diy jewelry 8015 8015

I’m still not sure what exactly I’ll do with them for the wedding, but I have four little charms to play around with now, so maybe they’ll show up on my bouquet. Who knows! As for the other materials, you’ll see later that I’ve found some good uses for them in other DIY mischief. :)

Are you making any trinkets for your wedding?

Lol, I thought the same thing when I saw the “moldy dog poo”. I saw the picture, and as I was scrolling, I thought, “Oh God, please tell me she didn’t pick that…” Hahaha!

These turned out great! I’m so impressed you were able to pull the out. And those fruit sticks are so cute! There has to be something else you can use them all for, right?
