Like many a bee before me, I’ve been thinking about how to include my Weddingbee moniker on the wedding day. I always enjoy reading about bees including their namesake, so I wanted to carry on this tradition. If you had told me a year ago that I would be searching for funnel cake jewelry for my wedding day, I would have told you that you’re effing crazy. Who does that? Well, Miss Funnel Cake, duuuh.
What did I find on my Etsy run?
($9 Necklace from LoveYourBling)
Bah. It looks like scrambled eggs. What else Etsy?!?
Slightly cute, but still no strawberries. And ridiculously oversized for my hands.
($10 Ring by SouZouCreations)
Again, these look like scrambled eggs! Big, fat eggs on my earlobes.
($10 Earrings by SouZouCreations)
Omelet in your hair, anyone??
($4 Bobby Pins by lepetitebonbon)
No offense to the creator, but this looks like moldy dog poo. Seriously.
($9 Necklace by technicolorcarnival)
Hoorah for strawberries! But not quite funnel cake.
($7 Waffle Earrings by kcsweettreatsandmore)
So uhh… slim pickings folks. Buyable options were not good. And then I looked into custom Etsy. (Uh oh… you can hear the cha-ching of the price going up…)
PetitPlat’s work looked great. But all the prices started around $30 and would go up for custom work. I can’t imagine dropping $50 on a tiny funnel cake. I’m gonna DIY that shit!
These are the materials I ordered from WhysperFairy:
Due to late shipping, WhysperFairy threw in some extra supplies, so I would be receiving this in the mail:
But she accidentally shipped everything in the mail to Columbus, so she sent another package to Zürich while my mother forwarded the package to me as well. So for a grand total of $3.20, I got these supplies:
That’s right, check out all these extra fruit sticks I got besides strawberry!
I got started on my first attempt of trial and error.
This funnel cake was too big for my taste, and with the powdered sugar on the strawberries it looked too much like pizza to me. So I tried again on a smaller scale and remembered to use some wires for the hooks.
This time, I’m really happy how the funnel cakes turned out! They are so small and cute.
I’m still not sure what exactly I’ll do with them for the wedding, but I have four little charms to play around with now, so maybe they’ll show up on my bouquet. Who knows! As for the other materials, you’ll see later that I’ve found some good uses for them in other DIY mischief.
Are you making any trinkets for your wedding?
