Shopping for Beachwear in September

September 21st, 2011 @ 2:56 pm by Mrs. High Wire

is impossible.

Not to give it away up front or anything, but it has been a real challenge attempting to find anything “beach-ey” this time of year for our upcoming honeymoon. It’s all sweaters and boots and pumpkins and squash and chili and…oh I’m sorry, we’re supposed to be talking about clothes here. My bad!

After scouring the mall and even going into one of those swimsuit stores (but I’m not dropping $200 on a swimsuit, not in a million years), I was feeling a little discouraged.

Mr. High Wire decided to take a solo shopping trip to Target and wound up scoring some massive loot! So I saddled up again and headed out for more shopping. Poor pitiful me, right? :)

Well, luckily, I wound up with similar amounts of good luck in the ladies section!

I found TWO matching swimsuits (in the correct sizes!) in the leftover summer pickings of Target’s awesome swimsuit line, and a few others fun pieces. And everything was on deep discount. Total score.

It was really strange. I went to a WalMart near Orlando last late September. They had the most AMAZING swimsuit selection I have ever seen. Like department stores don’t even carry that much. Crazy!

haha, well, I had some good luck finding swimsuits online, from lingerie stores…! It makes it difficult to try them on, obviously, but I got some great and cheap suits, and threw in a couple of extra “fun pieces” to enjoy at other points on the honeymoon… ;)

I found most of my stuff at Kohls! Everything was on a super discount since all the fall stuff came out… It was great!

Searching for a swimsuit for Mr. Ticket this week wasn’t so fun. He’s a big guy, so honestly finding stuff for him at reasonable prices ANY time of year can be challenging. Luckily JC Penny online came through for us, the last suit they had in his size was even in his favorite color and 50% off! Grats on your Target loot! So love that store.

I too am marrying some who is a little on the larger side…. 6 foot 7 inches tall makes it a little hard to get into dressing rooms alone… My little secret… Burlington Coat Factory. They have an AWESOME big boy section and for the right price as well. They also carry a good swimsuit selection.

You are so lucky! I scoured Target like mad for an upcoming destination wedding I am going to (in November) a few weeks ago and I could not find any two matching pieces in the right size. Everything I find is retail bathing suit prices, which are INSANE… whyyy is such a small amount of fabric so much $$? I am still at a loss. Our honeymoon is the first week of April so hopefully stores will be stocking up by then.

It’s like you read my mind HW. I found such a cute sparkly bathing suit on discount at VS, but I didn’t buy it fast enough and now it’s gone. I’m not paying 200CHF to buy a suit “on sale” in Swiss land, so I don’t know what to do! :(

Victoria’s Secret has AMAZING suits (& summer dresses) on clearance if you have enough time to get them shipped to you! I seriously got dresses for $9.99 and under that i LOVE. And it wound up being free shipping - score! Good luck!!!

I just scored a new bikini for our upcoming honeymoon from jcrew.com on clearance. Check them out if you are still looking for swimwear. I actually think they carry it year round!

I’m going through the same thing! I’ve lost a little over 20 pounds this year, that’s great and all but now I have are stuff that’s too small to fit me now (that I’ll fit back in to eventually but not before the wedding) and things that are 2 sizes too big. I haven’t had luck with bathing suits, I found some at VS on sale but they don’t fit so great. For regular honeymoon wear I just had luck at Old Navy, they still had shorts in my size on clearance! I also had luck over Labor Day weekend at Macy’s, lots of great dresses on sale!

Try lands end canvas (one of their lines, more like J Crew style), they have a ton of swim suits on sale now and free shipping.

I’m impressed you found some good suits after-season at Target! Go you! I’m going to second what Sweet Cream said.. VS does tend to carry clearance suits almost year round. I know some can still be pricey, but there’s definitely some good finds!

Honestly I almost always buy my bathing suits online at Victoria’s Secret, and fall tends to be when they have their big sales. I can’t even remember the last time I actually tried on a bathing suit in a store. It would have to be back in high school.

Send your mother shopping! Momma Kettle found the cutest sandals. I was like, “sandals? Um, thanks Momma.” When she told she’d bought them specifically for the honeymoon, I was like, “Awwww shucks!” I still don’t know where she got them, I think an outlet store. Outlet stores still have summer clothes, don’t they?

I second the idea for Victoria’s Secret! I get all of my swimwear there: the quality is lovely and there are always sales and coupon codes available!

I’m doing pretty well right now for my honeymoon - I’m going to all the camping stores to get some appropriate clothes for our Costa Rica honeymoon. We’re going to be busy (post coming soon!) so sadly my outfits are less cute dresses, and more shorts in ‘technical’ fabrics.
