Miss Sweet Cream's Picture
Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

Pimp My Ride

September 22nd, 2011 @ 6:59 am by Miss Sweet Cream

Growing up I not only just loved books, but I simply adored Dr. Seuss books. I loved his wildly funny, wickedly imaginative words and stories  and I would read them again and again as a little Sweet Cream. One of my favorites (is there such a word when talking about Dr. Seuss??) is “Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now.”

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, some man from above tries kicking poor Marvin out and lists all of the crazy ways that he can leave… by broomstick, by Bumble-Boat, by Crunk Car, by a Zike Bike… if you know Dr. Seuss, like I am sure you do… you get the picture.

I am sure that you are thinking, “Sweet Cream! What the hay does Dr. Seuss have to do with all this?!”

Well… I’ll tell you what… I think that thoughts of Marvin’s modes of possibilities in transportation somehow made it into my bridal brain disguised—and for some reason, I just couldn’t let go of the fact that I didn’t want just a limo to carry us—or our wedding party—around on the big day.

There were plenty of other cool ways to get to and from the church.

For us, transportation is not a high priority on the list—I do admit that our budget money wasn’t riding on something as cool as a Zike Bike. I tried reaching out to the local VW club to find a VW bus—with no such luck (although I did mysteriously begin to see them parked around everywhere after I started the hunt! Never with a driver, though!).

So after brainstorming and thinkforming…Googling and doodling… (Whoa! Getting all Seuss-y on the hive, huh?)… We arrived at this…

…Wait for it…

That’s right, my friends. A Chevy Van that seats 12.

Well, you can’t win ’em all. The clock is ticking and my creative juices are getting used elsewhere. And with a basket of goodies, some window markers and perhaps a Martha flower here and there, I think it will be perfection. And it’s a whopping $112 for 24 hours. Done and done!

Please tell me your super cool ideas that got your wedding party from Point A to Point B, whether they be wicked, unique or thrifty! I need to live vicariously through you since all we are getting is a Chevy van!!! But know that I do have a little somethin’ somethin’ up my sleeve for  Mr. Sweets and me…

I love wedding trolleys! But it’s probably the first thing I’d sacrifice if I needed the money elsewhere in the budget. At around $1500 for 4 hours here in Chicago, it would definitely be a splurge, and when I compare it to your $112, it seems almost laughable! Plus, the van has its own sort of kitsch. :)

Can’t tell you about super cool ideas for transport but I can tell you how much I LOVE MARVIN K MOONEY. That was one of the first books I learned to read :) my mom still has it afer all these years. It is one of the greatest books ever….sorry I couldn’t contribute anything substantive but I love that friggin book.

I LOVE me some Dr. Seuss! We are leaning toward Zike Bike at the moment… But haven’t given much (any) thought to transporting the wedding party…Oops. The Chevy van all decked out will be sweet!

We’re using the shuttle that the hotel is providing since it’s free….the ride was not one of my priorities either and I didn’t see spending hundreds of dollars to have a limo waiting around for the end of the reception…I wanted to use that money elsewhere…I think the limo/car ride is such a waste of money…

In the middle of the winter, many of the more cutesy options are just too chilly.
Though now you have me thinking about looking into cute vans/buses!

I haven’t found much in the creative modes of transportation in my area. I did find a Jeep limo, and I am a Jeep girl through and through. Only problem (same as you) is cost.

I’ve been trying to get the discussion going about transportation, but it isn’t going well. I think it will be more of a discussion once we know everyone’s transportation needs.

That van will allow for some close quarters, I’m seeing lots of cute pictures in-van in your future!

Luckily ceremony and reception are in the same place, but we’re still trying to figure out how to get from the reception to downtown ATL the night of the wedding so that we can be closer to the airport for the next mornings early flight!
