About Mrs. Skunk

Trusting and Not Tasting

September 22nd, 2011 @ 12:09 pm by Mrs. Skunk

Our venue doesn’t offer tastings. My first instinct is that this could turn out to be a terrible situation. But all of the reviews I’ve read have been nothing but positive, and I already trust Suzy with my life. (After all, she is my wedding fairy godmother.)

That being said, the reason they don’t offer tastings is because the final menu is determined by what happens to be available at markets that week, as everything is bought and prepped specifically for our day. The tentative menu makes me drool.

Soup appetizer: Roasted pumpkin soup with chipotle-cream dressing & cinnamon croutons

Two entrees: “Smoked on the bone” chicken or Blue Ridge beef brisket

Starch: Sweet tater casserole

Vegetable: Seasonal veggie medley

House salad and assorted breads

Four-hour unlimited beer: Shock Top & Yuengling

Four-hour unlimited wine

Trusting and Not Tasting : wedding alcohol atlanta Beer01

Our beer selection: Yuengling Lager and Shock Top Belgian White

And in case you wondered how delicious this all looks, I stumbled across some photos of a wedding at our venue that I hadn’t seen before.

One of the things I obsessed over before getting engaged was blog posts about food tastings. But knowing how hard it is for me to make decisions, this is really probably the best option for me. Anyone else trusting a vendor in a big way?

Our venue doesn’t offer tasting either. I was worried about it, but like yours it received good reviews. I think it’s OK to be trusting, especially if its coming from a gut feeling. And my that food does look tasty!

My venue offers a tasting a few times per year. However, I’ve booked the venue without having a tasting and solely on reviews I’ve read online. Praying the food is food and the portions are decent.

Our venue didn’t offer tastings for that same reason as well, and it was seriously some of the best food I’d ever had! I’m betting yours will be the same - those photos are making me so hungry!

Our venue doesn’t offer tastings either. Booked it based on the reviews because food is definitely one of my top things. Hopefully it turns out alright!

That sounds delicious … at least you know the food will be fresh! I would trust a venue like this if it got good reviews, but we had a CATERING company that tried to get us to sign a contract without doing a tasting! No way Jose!

I love Yuengling!! I’m so jealous you have it. MN doesn’t sell it at all :(

Menu sounds incredible!

Our venue doesn’t do an official tasting, either - they host these fab themed supper club type deals once a week which would serve as our tasting, so we could get an idea of how and what they cook. All the reviews I’ve read have also mentioned how amazing the food is.. so if all the reviews are as good as you mentioned, I wouldn’t be TOO worried!

Our venue doesn’t offer tastings either, but I did go online and read that the reviews were good…so I am okay with that…ours is a buffet style and we get to choose the entres and appetizers, and starch and they provide 8 seasonal side dishes (salads, pastas, and other goodies)…so I was comfortable with our decision.

Our caterer only offers tastings after the menu is set. This seems counterproductive: shouldn’t we taste the food to decide what we want? We’re going with our gut and trusting them to pull through.

@KatieJean: It used to not be sold in Georgia either. I’m a firm believer though that something is better when you ‘can’t’ have it. I swear, Yuengling brought over the state lines tasted so much better than the stuff you can pick up at any gas station now!

This is not going to answer your question, but I would come to your wedding simply for unlimited shock top :) MY FAVORITE!! great choice. everything sounds great

i am trusting my venue with my food without tasting everything because we have attended a couple weddings already for receptions there, and the food has always been amazing. i have on worries

Any chance your venue would let you do a tasting now, just to get a feel for their culinary abilities? It might not be the same exact ingredients or preparation, but you would be able to gauge their use of sauces, spices, cooking methods, etc. (I guess I’m thinking even if you got a different sauce with your chicken dish, if the chicken itself wasn’t cooked well, does it matter that there would be a different sauce on it in a few months?)

The food is a big deal to me. Making our contract agreement well before a tasting was even scheduled was going out on a limb, but I loved our venue just that much! I have faith that my food and yours will be tasty and fantastic.

We didn’t do a tasting. I think we could have if we wanted, but we’d had this particular caterer’s appies so often before that we didn’t bother.
