Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

You’re the Inspiration!

September 22nd, 2011 @ 12:43 pm by Mrs. Magic

You’ve seen a sneak peek of my invitations here, but I wanted to back up and tell you how I was inspired. Ever since I first started reading Weddingbee, I was always way into the invitation posts, and extremely impressed by everyone on the blog and boards. I mean, I even ordered a damn Gocco for Pete’s sake (and no, I still do not know how to use it).

I think it would have been mad awesome to say “Hey, guess what? I made those invitations!” But, I probably would have had to say that through a mic stuck in my padded cell at a mental institution. So, I got someone else to do it themselves, that someone else being my fabulous and talented stepmom.

Here is the inspiration I have been lusting over!

The Scissors Invitations

Yeah, so, I knew what invitations I liked that others had made…but I didn’t know what I wanted, really. I wanted them to be colorful, casual, and fun. And for them to incorporate a heart with our initials in it. I drew up some mockups with a pencil and paper, because I am old school like that, and also because I have zero technological skills. It’s pretty impressive that I can type, actually.

If you’d like, I can use a paper, pencil, and ruler, and sketch out some invitations for you!

Where did you get your inspiration from, and how did you put your ideas down on paper—literally, or with, like, technology?

Oh my gosh I swoon over Stripes’ invites. And don’t feel too old school - I totally sketched mine out at first, too! I mean, they sucked, but I tried. I’m quite impressed with your mad drawing skillz, yo!

Haha I love your hand drawn invitation inspiration! Total awesomeness :) I like to draw things out first too, actually my FI says that you’re always supposed to draw it out on paper before you start it on illustrator or whatever and he is the graphic design guy so there ya go! I really love the first inspiration pic as well :)

I sketched out so many things wedding planning, sometimes it’s the only thing that will help me visualize the finished product.

Love the “general awesomeness.” My only want was Virginia Tech Hokie-ness. Our invites are quite Hokie. I have loads of creative ideas and no ability to make things that involve skill. Enter Invitation Consultants. They did what I couldn’t, and our suite turned out great!

Ehm, we used a bit of technology because I’m a designer. But for the basic shape of the invite we played around with drawing and cutting out paper because the trifold was tricky and we really weren’t sure how to lay it out in the beginning. Cutouts definitely helped us decide shape and size!
