This Skunk Gets a Shower!

September 23rd, 2011 @ 11:25 am by Mrs. Skunk

Early in September, my wonderful aunt hosted a family shower at her house. We seriously couldn’t have asked for a better day. We started out with a little bit of grub. Hamburgers, anyone?

Stuffed faces!

Next we were ushered inside to open gifts. Now one thing I wasn’t prepared for was how incredibly awkward this part of the shower was. We were sat at the head of the living room surrounded by gifts (that we had asked for) and opened them, pretending to be surprised, while everyone quietly stared. SO AWKWARD. I made the most of it by putting pots on my head, dancing in our new aprons, and otherwise making silly faces. Honestly, we are so fortunate to have the family we have. They were incredibly generous!

My cousin was awesome and thought about my puppy and Mr. Skunk’s kitties and gifted us with dog and cat toys. I naturally had to test them out.

We also got lots of useful kitchen stuff. I’ve already put this canning pot to use. Scuppernong jelly, anyone?

For anyone wondering, yes, this is my cry face. My nose gets all pinched and my eyebrows go about as high as I can get them. Written on the bottom of these doves was “Love, Mamaw.” I was incredibly close with my grandmother. Before she passed in 2007, she gave these to my mom to give to me when I got married.

We lightened the mood a bit and went outside to talk and enjoy the awesome weather. There are a ton of pictures from that day, but I’ll share my two favorites. On either end are my cousins, and the dude is my brother. We were all really close and vacationed together all the time as kids (and even now we do at least once a year). We have a picture from every single time the four of us have been together in this same exact pose.

My aunt and uncle also have donkeys and guinea hens, so I of course had to jump into the field and hang out with them. This is the only share-worthy picture I have of me and the donkey. The other ones I care to keep hidden were from when I decided to ride him. Come to think of it, maybe it’s just me that’s so awkward.

Looks like such a fun party!
It is SO wonderful that you were able to have your grandmother be a part of your day through her amazing gift. I miss my Nana every day and would be so beyond thrilled and touched if I were in your shoes.

Those awkward moments at a party when all eyes are on you are tough! I ran from that moment at my e-party. I should’ve taken notes from you and broken into song and dance like they seemed to expect!
