Getting Musical

September 24th, 2011 @ 9:20 am by Mrs. Skunk

In meeting with Suzy at Neverland, she kept mentioning that she needed a CD with our ceremony music on it. At first I was a little confused. I kinda just assumed there would be set music. “Here comes the bride. Dun dun dun-dun.” And as you all know, this Skunk isn’t a good decision maker. So I started looking early. And once I found what I like and it passed the Mr. Skunk test, it’s been set in stone since April. Maybe this wedding is making me more decisive after all! I’ll quit hemming and hawing and get down to business.

This will be playing during the escorting of the moms and grandmas, and then Jonathan, the best man, and the pastor coming to the altar. I’ve been obsessed with Led Zeppelin for as long as I can remember. There’s nothing quite like driving with the windows down and singing along with Robert Plant.

Next, the ladies will walk in escorted by groomsmen, except my MOH L. Bug who will walk down by herself. They’ll be followed by our junior bridesmaid and little dude. This is the one song I had a hard time deciding on. But every time I play this, I know it’s right.

Next up is my song! I knew I wanted something a little more traditional. But with a non-traditional twist. Enter Trace Bundy. Watching all the videos of this guy leaves me mesmerized. I just can’t understand how he can make a single guitar sound so amazing.

And finally, the recessional. Mr. Skunk typically turns his nose up at “current” music. I on the other hand can totally rock out to Lady Gaga or The Black Eyed Peas. When I played this song from Michael Franti & Spearhead, I immediately started dancing around. I think him seeing me that excited was enough for him to say yes.

I’m so excited. While we couldn’t exactly include any death metal to please the mister, I think this will work great for our ceremony.

Wow I LOVE your music - it’s amazing how beautiful a simple guitar can sound. Right now I’m using “Everlong” for my bridesmaid’s but it’s a beautiful acoustic version. I am desperately trying to find “Here Comes the Sun” acoustic - just George Harrison on the guitar for me & my dad. If I can’t find it I may have to go with both songs from the Vitamin String Quartet.
Congrats on your great song choices!!!

Wow. Watched that Trace Bundy video. Mind BLOWN. I really love Canon in D and was concerned that not having a string quartet would have it sound cheesy. Thanks for this heads-up. I might just steal it :)

What a pretty version of pachebel cannon, I agree, he is one amazing dude on the guitar! I just wanted to say I also can’t help but noticing all of the things we have in common…Not only have I been looking for my own “traditional but different” song and found a few versions of canon I liked..but my mister also enjoys death metal above all else (We’re still trying to figure out a way to incorporate a little, without scaring away the grandmas..and we’re failing miserably)..AND I am also 23, he is also 29, AND he is also a mechanical designer! Such a crazy amount of quinkiedinks! :) good luck with the rest of your planning, your music choices are splendid!

@xlittlemissbridex: Exciting! Thank you so much!
@khf777: We’re still working on finding a first dance song and a father/daughter song. Eeek.
