Warning: this may not be suitable for work, as there are some photos of some plastic and papier-mâché male body parts.
Otherwise known as a bachelorette in some parts of the world, down here we call it a hens’ night, apparently for some unknown reason? I’m guessing it is due to all the plucking around all us women do, but honestly who knows?
Anyway, after the posh and delicate afternoon tea, the sun went down and the frivolity increased! The PG rating of the night went out the door and the six-foot “big bob” ended up in the toilet to startle the first person who walked into the bathroom—here he is in the spare room while we were getting ready:
Mum snuck him into the bathroom when no one saw and waited for someone to get the fright of their life—I was not paying a lot of attention at this point, so I did not even notice until I heard an almighty screaming turning into giggling coming from the toilet!!
It was also time for us to bash down the piñata, which was actually quite hard work! Bridesmaid M did a lot of work getting a beautiful glitter appearance and may have made him a little too strong? Everyone had a go at bashing this poor thing, and we spent almost an hour trying to get the goodies out!
Then there was more champagne and more giggles, and then we launched into pass the parcel! This section was actually really tame; we had measuring cups, peelers, wooden spoons, and cookbooks as the prizes!
What a surprise—I win again!
Then we figured it was closing in on pumpkin hour and we really should head out if we were going to be doing any more partying because the Mums were starting to look a little weary:
So, we did what all women in their mid-20s (OK, LATE-20s) on a hens’ night do—caught public transport! There is a bus that runs from about 100 meters (110 yards) down the road from my parents right to the bar where we were going! So off we hopped!
This photo above is actually my favourite of the night! Apart from the fact that every single person looks great in this shot, of the eight girls in this photo with me, I have known one of them since preschool, four of them since primary school, one since high school, one since first day of undergraduate, and one since first year of uni! I tallied it up and that is 147 years of friendship right there! (Yes, I have nothing else to do…apparently.)
Bridesmaid M had already bought us a travel 10 so we were prepared—the bus driver thought it was hilarious!
We were having an awesome time busing it down there:
My wonderful friends and family made for an amazing hens’ night!
