Our No-Look First Look

September 26th, 2011 @ 8:58 am by Miss Petit Four

After our photographer suggested we take pictures before the ceremony to save time, Mr. PF had to be talked into the idea. He is somewhat traditional and expressed that he didn’t want to see me before the ceremony. He wanted that element of surprise when he sees me walking down the aisle, which I totally get.

I actually agreed with him, but I knew it would be more logical to take pictures before the ceremony. It would leave us more time to enjoy our cocktail hour and more time with our friends and family. So, I started doing some research on first-look pictures in an attempt to persuade Mr. PF into the idea.

I love this shot! I can totally imagine myself sneaking up on Mr. PF.

Another reason the first look appeals to me is because the bride and groom get to spend a few private moments together before the chaos of the day begins. He still wasn’t convinced, though. (Aren’t the guys just supposed to go with the flow?)

Then, I stumbled upon these beauties.

I can actually feel the emotion and excitement oozing from these pictures! This is the perfect compromise for us. We get to have some special pictures of us sorta together, yet we still get to keep the element of surprise for the mister during the ceremony.

We are also going to get the wedding-party pictures taken before the ceremony to get that out of the way.

Did you, or are you, planning on having a first look? How did your FI feel about it?

I love that! We’re the opposite - FI wants to do photos before because he doesn’t want to miss the cocktail hour, and I’m traditional and don’t want him to see me beforehand. What a good compromise!

That is adorable! My fiance also doesn’t want to do a first look, but these are precious and there is still that element of surprise. Love it!

We are both traditional and want to wait and not have a first look. I would not trust him though to do these pictures. He is a quite the funny man. I think he would tease me and pretend to look.

I love non first look pictures like the examples you showed! The one of the bride sneaking up behind the groom is also beautiful! I am tempted to ask FI if he would want to do non first looks like this, too!

My Froggy is against it too. He is so super traditional and I am so far out there it is funny. His family’s refusing to travel, necessitating two weddings, has actually become more of a God-send and less of the headache I thought. He now gets his super traditional, majorly boring wedding and I get my extremely quirky, lots of fun wedding. It has made compromising nearly painless :D For our first (his) wedding we will not be doing a first look. Though I now totally want the door pics! so we will see. For my wedding we will have all our pics done before the wedding in an ancient forest. Lots of moss covered towering trees to add drama to my pics yay!

My groom feels the same as Mr. PF, and I haven’t really made up my mind one way or the other. I’m really glad you pointed out this option though, it’s very cute! I particularly like that 4th photo!

I love the second set of pictures. I agree you can totally feel the emotion. I had to convince Mr. CS to do a first look but now he is completely on board because he wants to go to the cocktail hour :)

My MOH did this. It makes me emotional to the point of getting sick to my stomach (in a good way!) We won’t get to do this, so I might just end up puking down the aisle. lol

I too wanted a first look and had to talk Mr. Porcupine into it. What’s up with these guys sometimes? haha. It’s still not set in stone, but we both really want the chance to go to our cocktail hour. This is definitely the perfect compromise for you two! We’ve been considering the “faux first look” too.

I love the idea of the no-look first look.. the pictures are the cutest! It’s such a great way to sort of have those few moments, but still keep with tradition if that’s your thing!

Love this idea, hadn’t seen it before. I’m not sure what my FH will think about it, and I’m a little conflicted too…but I think this is a great way to capture the moment to where you will actually remember the feelings when you look at the pictures later on.

I’m not showing Mr. Kettle this idea. I want all our pictures done before the ceremony and he’s never heard of a sorta-first look. Shhh!

That’s actually a photo of me and my new wife (from Becky Young) :-)

It worked out really well and I highly recommend it. I think its one of the top shots from our wedding. The best part is that in all of the co motion of the wedding day it was great to take a few moments away for ourselves. It also helped a lot to calm nerves.
