Mrs. Parasol's Picture
Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

Checking in from the Other Side!

September 27th, 2011 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Parasol

Hello again, hive!

Mrs. Parasol here and back in action! I still can’t believe the day we’ve been building toward for nine months has come and gone, and I’m so thankful to all of you who sent your well wishes to Mr. Parasol and me.

I know I’ve been a bit of a wedding skeptic around these parts. I wanted a romantic elopement in lieu of a big wedding, I struggled with various DIY projects Mr. Parasol and I took on, I had a pretty bad attitude about weddings in general when we reached the one-month mark, and I came down with a case of the bridal crazies in the last two weeks. I didn’t want to think of our wedding as something I just had to get through, but to be honest I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to escape that attitude in the end.

Well, let me tell you, hive. This wedding skeptic has been permanently cured of her cynical ways.

Our wedding was perfect.

And I don’t mean that in the “It was perfect because at least I married the love of my life” sense (though that was awesome!).

I mean that in the “Everything was perfect” sense. Like literally.

Maybe I just had wedding goggles on the whole day but, honestly, I’d be hard-pressed to tell you one thing that could have gone better. The day was absolute perfection: our entire wedding vision came together exactly the way we wanted it to, we had a blast celebrating with our close friends and family, and on top of it all Mr. Parasol and I got married! Seriously, weddings are amazing!

I can’t wait to come back and tell you all about our wedding, but for now here are two of my favorite pictures, taken by Mr. Parasol’s step-mom right after our family-only ceremony, that really capture our day.

There were a lot of smiles and loving glances, and I spent a hilarious amount of time holding up my dress (which still got absolutely filthy!) while Mr. Parasol carried my bouquet like a total champ.

There was also a lot of tomfoolery and shameless behavior, in true Parasol fashion. Just wait until you see the video of our first dance!

I’ll be popping in now and then before starting my official recaps to fill you in on a few wedding-related plans I didn’t have time to blog about, our two mini-moons (that’s right—Mr. Parasol surprised me with a second one!), and how we’re adjusting to newlywed life (spoiler alert: it rocks!). And, of course, I can’t wait to catch up with all of you on what’s been going on since I’ve been away!

Love and hugs,

Mrs. Parasol (!!!)

Thank you for all the love, everyone! I’m still reeling from all the fun we had at our wedding, and I am so unbelievably excited to start our recaps! Too bad I have to wait 2-3 months for the pro pics. At least I know that our photographers are taking their time to edit those babies really well. :)

@Miss Honey: I know, right?? Mr. P and I didn’t even see that area when we visited our venue a few months back. Our photographers spotted it on our way to the ceremony after our first look and brought us all down there for family portraits. They also took a lot of Mr. P and me, and I can’t wait to see what those look like! We definitely climbed up on that white part on the left!

@napabridekelsey: I know! There’s nothing like planning a wedding to make you doubt how awesome they are–but once you’re on the other side, you remember that they can be pretty great. :)
@alicia1745: And I cannot wait to share the video with you! It’s so much fun! And was definitely the highlight of our reception.
@jd: Oh, there was lots of tomfoolery throughout the entire day! And Mr. P and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
