Green Is My Signature Color

September 28th, 2011 @ 10:24 am by Miss Doe

The first time I ever remember hearing about wedding colors was when I was younger and I was watching one of my favorite movies, Steel Magnolias. This is when I understood the sheer importance of wedding colors.

One of the first questions people seem to ask about your wedding is, “what are your colors?” Growing up looking at my mom’s and dad’s wedding photos, their wedding color was something I always remembered. (’80s mauve, if you were wondering.) It also sparked my own imagination: what would my colors be?

Green is my signature color (a la Julia Roberts). So naturally this was the obvious choice for our main wedding color. Apparently for every color of the rainbow, there are at least 500 different shades for each. There are way too many options—here are just a few:

There were many things that I had to factor in while trying to pick the right shade of green. How it would look in photos, how bridesmaids will like wearing it, its universal appeal, how it matches the right season, and so on. I was instantly attracted to the softer shades, I loved the natural look of it.

I also needed an accent color that would work well with a soft shade of green. I was eager to incorporate pink somewhere. I started my search for the perfect shade of blush pink. Again, millions to choose from.

So what are our official wedding colors? No, they are not just green and pink. Wedding colors must have pretty names, duh. Therefore our chosen colors are:

Sage Green and Blush Pink

What is your signature color?  Did you have a tough time narrowing down the right shade?

Great colors! We also had sage green and blush pink, in addition to a nice soft yellow and a rich gray with hints of purple. We were pretty flexible with our “colors” and tried to go with whatever looked nice and cohesive.

BTW, LOVE the Steel Magnolias reference! When I saw your title, I immediately thought of that scene!

Love your color selection. I am always going back and forth on this decision. Most beach weddings I see have bright, bold colors but we are going with softer, more muted colors. I hope I’m making the right decision lol

We both love and wear LOTS of blue in our wardrobes, so it was an instant win win for the both of us. We went with Royal Blue with White and Silver accent colors. Love your Sage Green and Blush Pink!

@Miss Petit Four:

You are making the right decision if it makes you happy :) Does not matter what the guests think, because you can never make every person happy.

I started out with Coral for our beach wedding, but during dress shopping, the availability and awesome design of the dresses changed my color to Eggplant, which I now LOVE! I really like your colors, so feminine :D

Green’s my signature color as well and will be featured in our wedding. I love your color combo! It looks fluffy and sweet. If that’s even possible. lol

Haha blush and bashful. Love it — and love your colors! I don’t really have a signature color, and changed my mind eleventymillion times. But all the colors fell in the same general spectrum until the end: first, aqua and red. Then, teal and magenta. Now, finally, gray, hot pink and yellow. Yay colors!

Ha! My mom’s color was ’80s mauve too!
She would have been much happier if I had chosen that as well. My colors were red with orange accents. I wanted something different and something really vibrant, however I think if I had a do-over I might rather have picked pastel blue and pastel green, like a lot of the vintage weddings I see have.

Ditto on the green! I’ve always envisioned green as my “signature color”… in fact, all of my favorite items are green. My boss at work once made the observation after seeing a new coffee mug I got for Christmas, “gee, it’s green. Is that like your favorite color or something?”… um, yeah. Duh.

I seriously just watched this movie the other night! I always bawl like a baby! I love, love, love your wedding colors. I wish Mr. D was more easygoing on the pink, but I’m still really happy with our Navy, white, and chartuese!

Beautiful! Our colors will be turquoise and “orange creamsicle” - it took me forever to find the right descriptive word for the orange I was looking for :)

I think we may be twins and don’t know it yet LOL
When I read your posts they sound like me, and our husbands could be twins also! I just married (09/10/11) an avid hunter (seriously left for a week long hunt not even a week after we got back fromour honeymoon! LOL) And the colors I chose are green (pistachio) and I accented with pink. I wanted a country/vintage wedding…but to have a nice little elegance to it also. Sorry I just had to finally comment on one of your posts! LOL

Lime green!
Everything Mr. 10 and I have bought since we moved intogether is some shade of lime green (the bookshelf, the blankets on the couch and bed, the kitchen rug, the shower curtain, etc). It was a no-brainer for us. I think we are just going to pair it with black and white to keep things classy. We are looking at white and lime green orchids for our flowers, but our table flowers will be a variety of potted plants.
Yay for picking colors you love!

@tea: That’s the look I was going for! :)
@lisaelanna: Gotta love the ’80s haha
@Miss Doily: I always watch this movie but stop it before the ending…too sad for me :(
@Miss Fox: You like pretty color names too! :) Orangecicle? Awesome!
@MeaganLeigh2011: Haha thank you! I also can definitely see Mr. Buck taking off on a hunting trip right after the wedding. Those boys ;)

Thanks everyone! I’m glad to see everyone loves Steel Magnolias as much as I do! Love all the color combos….everyone seems to have a special tie to the colors they chose. To others not planning a wedding it seems like such a small decision…but of course we all know that it definitely isn’t! :)
