Photography became one of the most important things to me when we began planning our wedding. I can’t take a good picture to save my life (does catching people in compromising moments count as a good photographer?), but I have always appreciated people who can. Having the talent to figure out the right angle, lighting, zoom, shutter speed, etc. has always been really interesting to me. And, when it’s all said and done, the photos will be the only thing I have to fully remember the wedding by (because let’s be honest, my memory can barely hold onto what I need to pick up at the grocery store).

After finding a great venue, I searched through a list of preferred vendors on their site. I matched their list up with photographers who won “Best of” on the Knot, and scoured their websites and photo blogs for an idea on their styles. It didn’t take me long to realize I love photojournalistic-style pictures. We’ll need to take a few standard photos for the sake of memories, parents’ preferences, and tradition, but I want the bulk of our  pictures to be completely random and non-posed (I think I just made up that word).

Since Mr. Porcupine and I were proactive and booked all our vendors early, the two photographers we had the chance to met with had our dates available. Although I had planned to meet with a few more photographers I decided I was done after meeting with one photographer in particular who I had blog-stalked for months. She has a great eye for catching little moments, and we really clicked with her personality. This is one of the most important things when choosing a photographer. If someone rubs you the wrong way the last thing you want to do is SAY CHEESE!

We were even more persuaded when the price was right. We were able to make the package price fit into our budget after skimping on extras like lifetime portraits and an engagement session, which I didn’t particularly want to do. Plus, as a bonus, she has shot our venue A LOT so she knows the ins and outs of where to get the best shots.

Was choosing your photographer a no brainer, too? Am I the only bride out there blog stalking for pictures of my venue?

No, seeing as how we share a venue, I stalked it as well. I ended up with a Philadelphia photographer because that’s where we live and he doesn’t charge for travel, but still, we clicked with him immediately. As in, I hope we stay friends after this. I cannot wait for him to shoot our wedding. Klose was our third choice, and you’re absolutely right, it’s a definite plus that she knows the venue, we’re going to have to walk our photographer around, but for us is was a small price to pay. Congrats on finding such a great photog!

No, you are not alone. Our photographer was the first thing we booked. I had been following her blog and was a Facebook fan of hers way before we were even engaged. She was pricey, but I knew I would regret it later if we didn’t book her because I always knew I wanted her! She just did our engagement photos last week and I am anxiously awaiting the proofs.

Klose photography is great - they did at least 1 friend’s wedding that I can think of. And they seem really nice on teh social media channels. Great choice!

Ours was a no-brainer, we won 50% off everything :D

I love Klose Photography! My mom worked with her husband so we used her for my brother’s informal seniors and they look soooooo much better than mine did going with the school partnered photog. My mom also reported that she was really nice to work with. His pictures are still up in her gallery (the ones where the kid looks 12, has drum sticks and really fluffy hair)

When I was looking for a photographer for our wedding, one of my criteria is for them to have a website and a blog. I look into their blogs, if it’s not active and updated, it’s a no for me.

Choosing our photographers was definitely a no-brainer. We had stalked their blog for years and had joked about hiring them for our wedding long before we got engaged. They were definitely our most expensive wedding splurge, but they were totally worth it! We know the pictures will be amazing, and they were an absolute joy to work with on our wedding day. They fit right in with everyone and kept things upbeat and lively throughout the wedding.

I feel like I’m the only one out there who has NO IDEA which photographer to book. I hoping it suddenly hits me… and preferrably before our wedding =)

Ours was a no brainer too, we loved her style, clicked with her personality, and she had shot at both of our venues. Your photographer looks amazing!

Thanks all. So glad to hear so many good things about Klose!
@Miss Kid: I bet your photographer was on my blog stalking list. haha. I loved a bunch of Philly photographers, that unfortunately just fell out of our price range.
@pookiepie: I agree. It’s so important to me that they are tech savy and showcase their work.
@Mrs. Parasol: Definitely a worth while splurge. You will have those pictures forever!
@alicia1745: You’ll figure it out. It took me awhile of googling and viewing pics to make a choice.

The first thing I did was look for pictures at my venue! I really wanted to find photographers that were familiar with the space in hopes that they could really capture my wedding perfectly! I think it worked too becuase we found a couple of amazing photographers that I might have missed otherwise!

Woohoo! I like that they’ve shot at your venue before - I think that can be a HUGE advantage.
