How Cold Is a Brass Bra?

September 28th, 2011 @ 12:29 pm by Mrs. Skunk

I’ll save my dignity and let you try to figure out which old saying the title of this post is referring to. I’ve been incredibly low key and not worried about a single wedding-related detail until now. My roommate went to a wedding for a friend this past weekend at none other than Neverland Farms. I got a text the following morning saying, “Your venue is gorgeous, but we’re all going to FREEEZE.” Cue panic.

Once I got a chance to talk to her, I found out that the venue didn’t turn on the heat lamps until 9:30 PM, but by that time it was too late. All of the girls were wearing the guys’ jackets and apparently freezing. I’ve since emailed Suzy and she’s assured me that the heat lamps will be turned on early.

But you know what, when it all comes down to it, this is the weather that we as climbers LIVE for. I’ve checked the weather, and we’ll probably have mid 60s during the ceremony and the temp will start dropping steadily around cocktail hour. For the past two years, we’ve competed in a climbing competition on the first weekend of November and the weather has been beautiful, and then once it gets cold we throw on our down jackets.

I went to Wunderground.com to figure out exactly what the weather is like at Neverland Farms. The temperatures are exactly what I expected. And the best news is that there hasn’t been rain!

When it comes down to it, I can’t control the weather, and I can’t be responsible for making sure everyone is prepared. I’m not above wearing my big green puffy over my wedding dress. Cold weather or not, it’s going to be a blast.

OR…maybe you could get a cute shawl/jacket like this bride: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2011/09/27/the-inn-at-perry-cabin-wedding-from-cinemacake-susan-stripling/

I’d probably just make sure to let people know the reception is outside-ish so they know to come prepared, and have some hot chocolate/cider available for guests… :)

Good attitude, Skunk. It will be perfect, cold weather or not. But I’d totally love a pic of you in your big puffy coat ;)

I wish I can have your great attitude. Unfortunately, in Iowa, we have no idea what to prepare for in March. It could be somewhat warm and sunny, or cold and snowy. Darn Midwest and it’s crazy weather! I think a picture of you in a big parka and dress would be super adorable though!

Chiming in as a cold weather bride…agree with your outlook! Sure we need to accomodate for our guests, but I figure if they know it can be cold in January (or November in your case) they can prepare for it. I’m all for warm clothes, down coats, hats and mittens…and am advising so on my website :)

Our wedding is in February, I can’t imagine having to go extra to prepare people for the thought that it might be cold. But I do worry about warning people of travel concerns since they have to drive outside the city. Chicagoans forget sometimes that every city and town doesn’t shovel their snow as soon as it begins falling.
